The revival of the popular series about employees of the Manhattan Criminal Court is suspended indefinitely.

Fifteen years after a shaky agreement between screenwriters and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, the dispute has become a massive headache for major media companies, as the Writers Guild of America has decided to launch a strike. And while the workers are demanding pay raises, most media projects are shut down for extended periods of time.

More than 10,000 workers in the film industry, screenwriters and their sympathizers, went on strike. These people are tired of having to put up with corporations finding all sorts of ways not to raise salaries but to cut them, struggling with billions of dollars in debt. One of the casualties of the strike is the Night Court series — a recent revival of the original NBC show of the same name, which ran between 1984 to 1992.

We're less than a week away from the Night Court Season 1 finale, which means that viewers are already hoping for a second season to continue the story of the night shift at the Manhattan Criminal Court. Although Season 2 may come sooner or later, the future of the show remains uncertain at least for now, as production has been suspended due to the nationwide media industry strike .

The renewal of the series for a second season was announced in February 2023, which means that the writers began working on the story in late winter. However, as some sources told Deadline, the production is impossible without the writers' involvement at all stages, both before and during the shooting, and therefore, due to their protests directed at the production companies, the second season had to be postponed for an indefinite time.

The series stars Melissa Rauch, best known for her role as Bernadette Rostenkowski-Wolowitz in The Big Bang Theory. She also co-produces the show on behalf of her and her husband's own company, After January Productions. Universal Television and Warner Bros. Television Studios are also involved in the production.

In the show, Rauch portrays Abby Stone, the daughter of the late protagonist of the original series, as she takes over her father's position and hires his best friend Dan Fielding as the public defender.

The final episode of Night Court Season 1 is scheduled to air on NBC on May 9, 2023.
