Round two may be on the menu: director Kevin Lewis says he and Nicolas Cage are loaded with wild ideas for Willy's Wonderland 2.

Remember Willy's Wonderland? The 2021 oddball where Nicolas Cage never says a word, crushes demonic Chuck E. Cheese rejects, and crushes cans of Punch Pop between rounds? After four pretty quiet years, the people behind it — Cage included — say they have ideas. Plural.

Quick refresher on the original

  • Director: Kevin Lewis. Writer: G.O. Parsons.
  • Premise: A mostly silent drifter gets roped into cleaning the shuttered, condemned Willy's Wonderland and winds up in a nightlong brawl with possessed animatronics. It's less 'janitor' and more 'monster exterminator with a mop.'
  • Cast: Nicolas Cage leads, with Emily Tosta, Beth Grant, Ric Reitz, and Chris Warner co-starring.
  • Vibe check: I didn't love every choice the movie made, but Cage mowing through evil mascots while chugging neon sugar water? That alone is worth the watch.

So, is Willy's Wonderland 2 actually happening?

Lewis is out doing press for his new horror flick Pig Hill, which is rolling out on digital and VOD, and he dropped a little update during an interview with Slasher Radio. The short version: they aren't short on ideas, and some of those ideas are Cage's.

"We have a lot of ideas. Nic had a cool idea that we're kicking around. We've got, like, three or four other ones that we want to do. I think the Willy's universe could be pretty cool."

That sounds less like 'maybe one more' and more like 'we're spitballing a handful of sequels or spinoffs.' No production start yet, no dates, just the creative team openly talking about multiple directions to take this thing. Given how self-contained the first movie is — a silent tough guy versus a murder zoo — it's kind of funny how wide-open the follow-up possibilities are.

While we wait

If you want more right now, there is a four-issue prequel comic series from American Mythology Productions that digs into the backstory. You can still track down copies through their official site.

If/when Willy's Wonderland 2 locks in, expect more mop-swinging, more mascot carnage, and probably a cooler full of Punch Pop. Honestly, that sounds like a solid Friday night.
