Nicki Minaj's Reaction to Barbie Becomes The Internet's Favorite Joke
After some 'critical analysis' of Barbie's world premiere, social media mocks Nicki's movie reviewing talents.
The Barbie movie is finally just a few weeks away. Fans of the doll around the world are preparing to flock to theaters, but last Sunday, a few select celebrities made an appearance at the world premiere in LA. One of them was music icon Nicki Minaj, who had a very unique take.
'The actors can really act, and the comedic timing is actually on time. Bravo,' she said on Twitter.
To be fair, no one is comparing Nicki to Roger Ebert, but that's not much of an opinion, not much of an analysis. So fans obviously had some fun with her not-so-in-depth take.
'The special effects were very special,' said one user on Reddit. 'It feels like a movie,' said another.
Some took the opportunity to voice some unflattering opinions about the singer, whose song Barbie World, which features Ice Spice and samples Aqua's 1997 song of the same name, was released last month.
'Going to Nicki for a movie review is like asking her to write her own songs,' one user said. 'Passable garbage that adds nothing of value.'
But the best comments came on one particular thread, where users posted what they thought Nicki would say about their favorite movies - starting the latest internet joke: 'Nicki Minaj after seeing…'
Nicki Minaj after seeing Titanic: 'The actors can really act and it was sad when the boat sank.'
After seeing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: 'The turtles can be turtles and also mutant ninjas.'
Or There Will Be Blood: 'There was blood, I think.'
This hypothetical Nicki Minaj was confused after seeing The Wolf of Wall Street, according to one user: 'It's a stupid name. There was actors in it, not wolves.'
Some users took the opportunity to defend Nicki, arguing that there's no good reason to make fun of her. She's just a fan who posted an opinion about a movie she liked, then Deadline published an article about her tweet to make her look bad.
'Rage bait headline to get people outraged at the 'trashy hood rat,'' said one fan.
To be fair to Nicki, there was a little more depth to the tweet. She said the 'entire cast of this movie nailed it,' and that it was 'so visually stimulating.' She also promised a final analysis around the July 21 release date before telling the world that she loves Will Ferrell.
But after being a celebrity for so long, you would think she would understand: If you absentmindedly say one thing that's a little dense, the world of social media will mock you into oblivion.
