Cameras roll in April on Man of Tomorrow, kicking production into high gear.

Nicholas Hoult is not playing coy anymore: he has read the Superman sequel script, cameras roll in April, and yes, he is very into it. If you are wondering whether his Lex Luthor is the same smug shark from the first movie… probably not. This one pairs Lex and Superman on the same side, at least for a while, and the big bad everyone suspects is Brainiac. James Gunn is teasing without confirming, which is very on brand.

Hoult on Lex (and the script)

In a recent chat with Variety, Hoult said he has already seen the script for 'Man of Tomorrow' and confirmed production is slated to start in April. He would not spill specifics on where Lex goes next, but he did crack a grin about the direction.

"The script is awesome."

Pressed on whether Lex takes some turns we have not seen before, he teased there is "some really fun stuff." Translation: expect a few wrinkles beyond bald billionaire with a grudge.

So… Brainiac?

The working assumption among fans is that Brainiac is the sequel's main threat. Gunn fed that fire by posting the script cover, then basically acknowledged he knew exactly what that would set off without actually naming the villain. He is keeping the plot under wraps for now, but the setup sounds like an uneasy Lex/Superman alliance against a larger problem. If Lex feels different this time, that is likely why.

Where this lands in Gunn's DCU

Do not expect a full info dump yet. What Gunn has hinted is that 'Man of Tomorrow' will pick up threads from both 'Superman' and 'Peacemaker' season 2. He has even called 'Peacemaker' S2 "the Man of Tomorrow Prequel," which is a pretty clear breadcrumb about how these stories connect.

DC's near-term slate

  • Supergirl: hits theaters next year; Gunn shared a brief first teaser, and it already looks very different in tone from 'Superman'.
  • Lanterns: slated for 2026.
  • Clayface: also slated for 2026.
  • Man of Tomorrow: arrives July 9, 2027.

Bottom line: Hoult is hyped, filming starts in April, Gunn is dangling Brainiac without saying the name out loud, and the sequel is designed to plug directly into 'Peacemaker' S2. Circle July 9, 2027.
