Squid Game star Lee Jung-jae is done playing it safe. In Prime Video’s Nice to Not Meet You, he becomes Lim Hyeon-jun, a celebrity trapped in endless reruns as fictional detective Kang — and ready to break the cycle.

Prime Video just dropped a rom-com that puts Lee Jung-jae in a lane we don’t usually see him in, and honestly, that’s half the fun. 'Nice to Not Meet You' pairs him with Lim Ji-yeon for a sharp, petty, occasionally chaotic clash that has very obvious 'they hate each other until they don’t' energy.

The setup

Lee Jung-jae plays Lim Hyeon-jun, a massively recognizable star who is over being stuck in the same role on loop. He’s been headlining a smash-hit detective show as fictional sleuth Kang Pil-gu for years, and it’s now gearing up for season five. It’s great for his fame; it’s terrible for his soul. He wants material with more weight and emotion.

Enter Lim Ji-yeon as Wi Jeong-sin, an award-winning political journalist who’s been sidelined and sent to the entertainment desk. She’s not thrilled. Her first big task: interview Hyeon-jun. Sparks fly in all the wrong ways, and the show wastes no time setting up a prickly, opposites-attract dynamic.

Episode 1: the messy meet-cute (spoilers)

Before Hyeon-jun was a household name, he was doing delivery gigs and grinding toward an acting career. That’s when he first crosses paths with Jeong-sin. They bicker, they size each other up, and they move on as nothing more than random acquaintances.

Cut to years later: both are established, both are frustrated. He’s boxed in by typecasting; she’s been demoted. Jeong-sin tries to fight her transfer by confronting her company’s chairman on a red carpet. Hyeon-jun misreads the situation, rushes in to 'help,' slips, and accidentally flashes the world. Yes, it’s a full-on wardrobe malfunction, and yes, it becomes a thing.

Episode 2: what to look for

  • Airport run-in: Newly released stills show Hyeon-jun and Jeong-sin colliding again at the terminal. Jeong-sin kicks up a scene while trying to protect her possible future boss, Lee Jae-Hying (as noted in the materials, played by Kim Ji-hun). The name is a mouthful; the takeaway is she’s doing damage control and it spirals.
  • Charity event fallout: While covering a charity gig, Jeong-sin ends up at a police station, where Hyeon-jun also happens to be. She’s unimpressed; he is all megawatt smiles as the cameras pop.
  • Career angst continues: Expect more of Hyeon-jun pushing to break out of his Kang Pil-gu box and Jeong-sin trying to make herself useful on a beat she didn’t want.
  • The slow-burn of it all: The rivalry stays hot, the run-ins keep happening, and the show is clearly building toward either some very heated moments or a strategic alliance that helps them both get what they want.

Episode 2 of 'Nice to Not Meet You' lands November 4 at 8:50 p.m. KST on Prime Video.
