New Superman Actor Looks Exactly Like Henry Cavill: Here's Proof
James Gunn's casting decision is ingenious.
Although there are still two more years to go before the premiere of James Gunn's Superman: Legacy, fans can't contain their excitement for another installment in their beloved franchise. Since its debut in 1978, the Superman series has spanned seven films, starring several different actors as the titular superhero. The upcoming eighth film will once again cast a new actor as the iconic character.
This time around, Superman will be brought to life by David Corenswet, a young American actor known for his roles in TV shows such as The Politician and Hollywood. Superman: Legacy will see the actor portray a younger version of the titular character in his youth, struggling to balance his extraterrestrial nature with his human upbringing. Interestingly, Corenswet bears a striking resemblance to his predecessor in the role, Henry Cavill. In fact, he looks so much like the British that fans have created numerous memes about it.
Two Peas in a Pod
There are many celebrities who look alike: Bryce Dallas Howard and Jessica Chastain, Elizabeth Banks and Rachel McAdams, Elijah Wood, and Daniel Radcliffe. Henry Cavill also had a doppelganger – Matt Bomer – but their likeness pales in comparison to the resemblance between the former The Witcher star and David Corenswet. Check out this tweet if you need proof:
While the two actors seem to have slightly different complexions, they still look so much alike that it's uncanny. Not only do Henry Cavill and David Corenswet share the same eye color and shape, but their dark, wavy hair makes them look almost like twins. The only difference is that the Superman: Legacy actor looks younger, making him perfect for the role.
In other words, because of his strong resemblance to Cavill, David Cornerswet will be able to create a sense of continuity between the different installments of the Superman franchise.
Superman: Legacy
Directed by James Gunn, known for his work on Guardians of the Galaxy, the upcoming film will mark a new milestone for DC, serving as the first chapter in the DC Universe. Alongside David Cornerswet, it stars Rachel Brosnahan, whom you may remember from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. The actress takes on the part of Lois Lane, Clark Kent's first true love.
Superman: Legacy is scheduled to premiere on July 11, 2025.
