New MCU Villain Won’t Cross Paths With Daredevil in Born Again Season 2
No face-off this time: Born Again Season 2 introduces a new MCU villain who never shares a scene with Daredevil, even as Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio return when the series hits Disney+ next spring.
Marvel found a new bad guy for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 and then made a very specific choice: he never actually shares the screen with Daredevil. That is not a typo.
The villain who does not meet the hero (for now)
Matthew Lillard (yep, Scream and Five Nights at Freddy's Matthew Lillard) is playing a character named Mr. Charles in Born Again Season 2. He is a fresh face for the MCU corner that Matt Murdock calls home, and he is positioned squarely in Wilson Fisk's orbit.
'A bit of a new antagonist on the field. The story is about power. When Wilson Fisk takes over New York, not just as a mayor but as a king in a way, it puts him in a new class of power players on the international stage. Matthew Lillard's character represents that.'
- Brad Winderbaum, via Entertainment Weekly
Here is the wrinkle Entertainment Weekly just added: Charlie Cox's Daredevil and Lillard's Mr. Charles do not have any scenes together in Season 2. So if you were picturing a hallway fight or a courtroom stare-down, not this season. Feels like setup for later or a parallel-storyline play while Kingpin expands his empire.
What the show is this time
Born Again is continuing the Netflix-era story, with Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio back as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Wilson Fisk/Kingpin. Marvel is rolling this out under the revived Marvel Television banner (folded under Marvel Studios these days), and the whole premise leans hard on Fisk's rise to political power in New York.
