KPop Demon Hunters keeps rewriting Netflix’s record book, with the June 2025 animated musical from Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans dethroning Red Notice to become the streamer’s most popular movie ever.

Netflix keeps trying to convince us its biggest movies are events, and this time the numbers actually back it up. KPop Demon Hunters is somehow still climbing over records months after release, and the latest one is a very nerdy, very Netflix kind of milestone.

The new record

The animated musical has now spent 15 straight weeks in Netflix's global Top 10 for English-language films. That is the longest run anyone has managed on that chart. It leapfrogs 2021's Red Notice, which hit the Top 10 a total of 14 weeks.

"The new achievement is especially impressive when considering that KPop Demon Hunters on the chart has been consecutive, whereas Red Notice originally charted for 12 weeks in a row before making two appearances later on."

Translation: not only did it beat Red Notice, it did it without falling off and bouncing back later. Inside baseball? Absolutely. But for a streamer that lives and dies by these charts, this stuff matters.

How we got here

KPop Demon Hunters dropped on Netflix in June 2025, directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans. It is an animated musical about, well, exactly what the title says. It quickly became Netflix's most-watched movie ever, passing Red Notice on that front too.

Then it pulled a weird flex for a Netflix title: a sing-along cut hit U.S. theaters for just two days in August and still grabbed roughly $19.2 million across the U.S. and Canada that weekend. That made it the first Netflix film to actually win a weekend at the box office. Not normal for a streamer, and clearly the audience showed up.

The music side has been just as wild. The soundtrack became the first film soundtrack to land four songs in the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 at the same time. Four. At once. From one movie.

What the movie is

When they are not selling out arenas, Rumi, Mira, and Zoey moonlight as demon hunters. Their fanbase is literally under attack by supernatural threats, and the trio ends up facing a new headache: a rival boy band that is actually demons in disguise. Yes, it is exactly that kind of movie, and yes, it knows what it is doing.

Who is in it

  • Arden Cho as Rumi
  • EJAE as Rumi's singing voice
  • May Hong as Mira
  • AUDREY NUNA as Mira's singing voice
  • Ji-young Yoo as Zoey
  • REI AMI as Zoey's singing voice
  • Ahn Hyo-seop as Jinu

KPop Demon Hunters is streaming globally on Netflix. And judging by that Top 10 streak, a lot of you are still pressing play.
