Netflix's Silence on Bridgerton Season 3 is Just Cruel at This Point
The number of Season 3 updates we've received so far has been criminally low.
It's been over 18 months since we last saw the beloved Bridgerton siblings on screen. A year and a half of almost complete radio silence. For goodness sake, that is even longer than the time between two social seasons in the Regency era!
The drought that is killing Bridgerverse fans at this point is exacerbated by the lack of anything substantial to drool over. Everything we know about the upcoming season can be counted on the fingers of one hand, and half of it comes from various leaks and rumors.
Anthony and Kate's Season 2 landed on Netflix on March 25, 2022, and since then, the massive Bridgerverse fandom has been frantically following every piece of news about Season 3, which was announced back in April 2021, along with Season 4.
The timeline of Season 3 updates
-
May 2022: Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington, announces that Season 3 will focus on the friends-to-lovers romance between her character and Colin Bridgerton, to the delight of many fans.
-
July 2022: The official synopsis for Season 3 is released and shared by Deadline.
-
July 2022: Netflix releases an intriguing video clip of key cast members to mark the start of Season 3 filming. The video sends the fandom into a frenzy as it hints at a steamy carriage scene described in the source book, Romancing Mr. Bridgerton.
-
July 2022-March 2023: Filming for Season 3 takes place, with some intriguing photos and videos of onlookers leaking out on social media.
-
January 2023: The first look at the Season 3 protagonists is leaked during a 'Coming Soon' segment of This Morning. The show's episode is later edited and all teasers are deleted.
UPDATE: I *think* this was an accidental leak

-
April 2023: Shonda Rhimes tells Virgin Radio UK that most of the work on the season is done and she is putting the finishing touches on it.
-
June 2023: The long-awaited Tudum event disappoints fans as only four new first-look stills are released instead of a trailer or official premiere date as many had hoped.
-
June 2023: At the same time, while sharing the stills, Netflix Portugal accidentally gives December 14, 2023 as the release date for the new chapter. The posts are soon edited and the caption is changed. The December release is not officially confirmed and becomes more and more far-fetched with each passing day.
The drought has become unbearable
That's it. Those are all the updates the fans have gotten in over 18 months. No teasers, no trailers, no premiere date. With only a few stills to look at over and over again, fans have become desperate for any tiny little crumb about Season 3.
Yes, the Hollywood strikes have slowed things down for many shows, including Bridgerton. But even they can't explain why the studio hasn't at least dropped something. After all, the season was finished before the writers' strike even broke out in May.
Huge studios like Netflix and Shondaland should know more than anyone about the importance of marketing campaigns. And maintaining radio silence feels like the worst possible choice at this point. Would you agree?
