All roads now lead to Arabasta, the desert kingdom poised to become the next flashpoint.

Netflix has been drip-feeding One Piece season 2 teases all year, and now they went ahead and pulled the trigger on something bigger: season 3 is officially filming. Yes, they are shooting season 3 before season 2 even arrives. I respect the confidence.

Season 3 is rolling (before season 2 lands)

The show’s official Twitter announced the news on November 24, 2025, and dropped a prop-heavy photo to go with it.

"Production on Season 3 has started, Straw Hats!"

They also reminded everyone that season 2 hits on March 10, 2026. So the timeline is: new episodes in March, and cameras already up for the one after that.

The photo tease, decoded

The image shows the season 3 script lying in the sand, surrounded by a skull, a compass-like device, and a dagger. Cue fan theories:

  • Desert setting: That screams Arabasta (aka Alabasta), the Grand Line’s desert kingdom. It’s the logical next major arc if we’re trekking across dunes.
  • The dagger: That’s Portgas D. Ace’s, better known as Fire Fist. We already knew Ace is joining the live-action in season 3, played by Cobra Kai star Xolo Mariduena. If you know Luffy and Ace’s history, you know it’s one of the series’ most defining (and emotionally brutal) threads.
  • The compass: One fan called it a Log Pose, the Grand Line’s magnet-based navigation device, and suggested it’s Ace’s. The design definitely looks Log Pose-adjacent.
  • The skull: One fan guessed it’s the same skull from the St. Briss ship that drops from the sky at the start of the Skypiea arc. Others pushed back, with replies like "The skull is the famine Alabasta is currently suffering," and "The skull is a symbol of Crocodile’s devil fruit." Verdict for now: fun clue, no consensus.

So, are we actually going to Arabasta?

Between the sand and Ace’s dagger, it’s a pretty safe bet that season 3 is targeting the Arabasta saga in some form. That storyline pulls the Straw Hats deep into the Grand Line and sets up major character beats that pay off for a long time. No plot synopsis yet, but the breadcrumbs line up.

Meanwhile, season 2’s route

Season 2 is the Grand Line entry ramp, with stops that include Loguetown, Reverse Mountain, Whiskey Peak, and Little Garden. Consider it the road to those sandy dunes everyone’s dissecting.

Dates to know

Season 2 hits Netflix on March 10, 2026. Season 3 has started production, but there’s no release date yet. In other words: we wait, but at least the cameras are rolling.
