Netflix Renews New Series for Season 2 Only 24 Hours After Premiere
Netflix moved fast: just 24 hours after its debut, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Deathwatch is renewed for Season 2, with Sam Fisher set for more stealth ops.
Well, that was fast. Netflix watched one day of viewing numbers and already pulled the trigger on a second season of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Deathwatch. Season 1 just dropped yesterday, and Season 2 is officially happening.
The basics
This is the first time the long-running stealth video game franchise has made the leap to a TV series. Liev Schreiber is voicing Sam Fisher, and the setup is classic Fisher: a young operative shows up battered and desperate, and the old pro gets dragged back into the mess.
"In this first-ever adaptation of the acclaimed stealth video game franchise Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell, legendary agent Sam Fisher is drawn back into the field when a wounded young operative seeks out his help."
Who is involved
- Voice cast: Liev Schreiber as Sam Fisher; Kirby Howell-Baptiste; Janet Varney as Anna Grimsdottir; Helen Hong; Joel Oulette as Thunder; Miranda Raison; Kari Wahlgren; Aleks Le; Kiff VandenHeuvel; Bella Dayne; Navid Negahban
- Creator/writer/EP: Derek Kolstad (yes, the John Wick creator)
- Executive producers (Ubisoft Film & Television): Helene Juguet, Hugo Revon, Gerard Guillemot
- Directors: Guillaume Dousse and Félicien Colmet-Daage
- Production: Ubisoft, partnering with Kolstad, Sun Creature, and Frost
Timing and a tiny naming quirk
Season 1 is out now, and Season 2 is already in the works just 24 hours later. Also, if you notice some materials write it as 'Deathwatch' and others as 'Death Watch'... you are not imagining things. Netflix is pushing the one-word title, but not everyone seems aligned yet.
Bottom line: Netflix looks confident in this one. Renewing a day after launch is not subtle.
