These five are brimming with originality.

There are a lot of brilliant comedies on television. Young Sheldon, for example, is still going strong on CBS. But more often than not, these sitcoms look painfully similar.

If you want something different to make you laugh, here are five original Netflix comedies to check out.

Insatiable (2018-2019, 2 seasons, 6.5 on IMDb)

Starring Debby Ryan and Dallas Roberts, this dark comedy centers on Patty Bladell, a high school student who used to be bullied for being overweight. After a summer of liquid dieting, she enters her senior year in good shape and has no intention of forgiving her bullies. Meanwhile, Bob Armstrong sees a lot of potential in Patty and convinces her to try out for a beauty pageant.

Daybreak (2019, 1 season, 6.7 on IMDb)

Adapted from Brian Ralph's comic book series of the same name, this post-apocalyptic teen comedy tells the story of Josh Wheeler, a seventeen-year-old Canadian transplant to Glendale, California, who witnesses the explosion of a mysterious bomb that wipes out most of the adults and turns the rest into flesh-eating zombies. Without adults, teenagers band together in Mad Max-like gangs, competing against each other while trying to stay alive in a hostile world.

Emily in Paris (2020-2024, 3 seasons, 6.9 on IMDb)

Darren Star's romantic comedy stars Lily Collins as a young marketing executive and American expatriate in Paris who is hired by a French company to bring an American perspective to their projects. The show follows her in her professional and personal life as she struggles to deal with problems at work, make friends and find time for love. The fourth and final season premieres August 15.

Love (2016-2018, 3 seasons, 7.6 on IMDb)

Judd Apatow's romantic comedy follows Paul Rust's Gus Cruikshank, a thirty-year-old children's acting teacher, and Gillian Jacobs' Mickey Dobbs, a thirty-two-year-old alcohol, drug and sex addict, who meet in a store one day and change each other's lives forever. Each with their own emotional baggage and problems, they begin to date, with very predictable consequences.

The Gentlemen (2024, 1 season, 8.1 on IMDb)

The small screen spin-off of Guy Ritchie's movie of the same name stars Theo James as Eddie Horniman, a former UN peacekeeper who inherits 15,000 acres and the title of Duke of Halstead from his father. Still reeling from the tragedy, Eddie learns that his new estate is involved in growing pot for Bobby Glass' criminal syndicate, run by Susie Glass while the boss is in prison. Determined to preserve his family's legacy, Eddie must learn to deal with the shady characters who have become part of his life.
