Netflix Just Pulled the Plug on the Élite Remake’s Season 2 — With Zero Fanfare
Netflix has quietly axed Season 2 of Class, its Indian remake of Élite, reversing an earlier renewal as cast comments and a platform update signal the planned season won’t go ahead.
Netflix quietly pulled the plug on Class Season 2, the Indian remake of Elite. The show was renewed, then left to linger. Now the cast is saying out loud what the platform hasn’t: Season 2 isn’t happening.
What actually happened
Despite an official renewal back in 2023, Class won’t return. Actor Ayesha Kanga said in an October 2025 interview that the team got bad news and, plainly:
'it’s not happening.'
On February 6, 2026, Gurfateh Pirzada confirmed the cancellation in an Instagram post, telling fans:
'Unfortunately, we could not give you another season because life usually has other plans.'
He added that he learned about it in the last week of 2024 and, in a rough bit of timing, fell sick the same week:
'I came down with a high fever and thought not again... not another one of my projects getting shelved.'
Netflix hasn’t put out a statement, but the platform did remove the 'It’s Official: Another Season is Coming' badge from the show’s listing. That’s the kind of quiet tell that usually seals it.
The road to nowhere (timeline)
- Late September 2022: Netflix announces Class, a Hindi adaptation of the Spanish hit Elite.
- February 3, 2023: Season 1 premieres. The story follows three working-class students navigating a posh private school built for the ultra-wealthy.
- March 6, 2023: Netflix renews Class for Season 2 as part of a larger India slate.
- 2023 performance: 1 week in Netflix’s global Top 10 (Non-English series); 7 weeks in India’s Top 10; 5 weeks each in Bangladesh and Pakistan.
- September 2024: Trade coverage says Season 2 will start shooting 'in the coming months.' No production updates follow.
- Late 2024: Pirzada is told the season is off.
- October 2025: Kanga signals the same in an interview.
- February 6, 2026: Pirzada publicly confirms cancellation on Instagram. Netflix stays silent but removes the 'another season is coming' tag from the title.
Context, in case you’re catching up
Class is Netflix’s Hindi remake of Elite. The Spanish original ran eight seasons and wrapped at 64 episodes. Class had a strong local footprint and some regional reach, but it never broke out globally in a big way. After the quick renewal, the updates just... stopped. Even during a Reddit AMA, Anjali Sivaraman chatted about cast friendships — 'I am the closest to Zeyn, Madhyama and Chintan!' — while sidestepping multiple questions about the show’s return.
So yes, renewed shows can end up in limbo. And sometimes they just get quietly taken off the board.
