After nearly three years of delays, The Sandman is back — and according to Netflix fans, it's already "perfect." At least, that's what social media is saying, just 24 hours after the new season dropped.

Season 2 quietly landed on Netflix in early July with a surprise: only six episodes released, with the remaining half of the season arriving sometime later this month. No date yet, because of course not.

The show picks up after the events of Season 1, but if you're trying to avoid spoilers, good luck — the timeline between releases has already encouraged binge-watchers to plaster their reactions across the internet.

Fans are losing their minds

Reactions online have ranged from glowing to borderline hysterical:

  • "Visually stunning, beautiful music score, and of course, great storytelling and acting performances!!"
  • "The visuals, the graphics, all those elements, the harmony, everything was magnificent, perfect."
  • "#TheSandmanS2 has me speechless… what does Dream dream about?"

A lot of capital letters. A lot of exclamation points. You get the idea.

What's actually happening

  • Season 2 is split into two parts
  • Part One: 6 episodes, released early July
  • Part Two: premieres July 24
  • This will be the final season
  • Both parts will stream on Netflix globally

The series stars Tom Sturridge as Morpheus, still playing it brooding and bleak, with returning cast members including Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death, Mason Alexander Park as Desire, and Vivienne Acheampong as Lucienne. New episodes dig deeper into Dream's family drama and cosmic mood swings — and fans are here for all of it.

Meanwhile, Netflix cancels two other shows for fun

In the same breath as The Sandman's triumphant return, Netflix axed two other shows: The Residence and Pulse. Both had strong viewership, both got the boot anyway.

  • The Residence: 177 million viewing hours
  • Pulse: 162 million viewing hours
  • Both cancelled after 1 season

Naturally, fans weren't thrilled.

"Netflix has cancelled The Residence, and I'm UPSET!!!" one user posted. Another called it "the best who-dunnit I've seen in a long time." Doesn't matter. It's gone.

So, while Netflix pats itself on the back for reviving The Sandman just long enough to end it, don't get too attached. Even a "perfect" show can vanish by next quarter. You can stream Season 2, Part 1 now — before it gets turned into a limited-edition Funko Pop and quietly buried in the algorithm.
