My Happy Marriage Season 3: Will Netflix Commit or Call It Quits?
Months after My Happy Marriage Season 2 ended on April 9, 2025, Kadokawa has finally lifted the lid on its promised follow-up: a three-episode special unveiled on November 22, 2025.
Quick update for fellow romantics: after My Happy Marriage Season 2 wrapped on April 9, 2025, things went quiet on the Season 3 front. Now we finally know what that mysterious post-finale tease was about, and no, it is not a full new season... yet.
What actually got announced
Right after the Season 2 finale, Kadokawa said a new anime project was in development. More than six months later, on November 22, 2025, that project was revealed: a 3-episode special. It will premiere in Japan and stream worldwide on Netflix in 2026.
Netflix Anime shared a new visual on X featuring Miyo in a shiromuku, the white bridal outfit worn in Shinto wedding ceremonies. So yes, the imagery is not subtle about where things are headed.
What the teaser shows
The initial teaser (posted on Kadokawa's YouTube channel) mostly recaps the story so far, then lands on a tender confession and embrace between Miyo and Kiyoka. Exactly the soft, heart-squeezing tone fans signed up for, which tracks with a special focused on deepening their relationship rather than kicking off a whole new arc.
Who is making it (and who is likely back)
Good news on the creative side: Takehiro Kubota is directing the special. He directed Season 1, the 2024 OVA, and co-directed Season 2. Kinema Citrus is animating again. Translation: the series is staying with the team that understands it.
Beyond Miyo and Kiyoka, the special's character lineup has not been formally confirmed. Still, expect the usual voices to return if and when their characters appear:
- Miyo Saimori — Reina Ueda (JP) / Miranda Parkin (EN)
- Kiyoka Kudo — Kaito Ishikawa (JP) / Damien Haas (EN)
- Kaya Saimori — Ayane Sakura (JP) / Lizzie Freeman (EN)
- Koji Tatsuishi — Kotaro Nishiyama (JP) / Michael Lorz (EN)
- Yoshito Godo — Hiro Shimono (JP) / Cedric Williams (EN)
- Yurie — Houko Kuwashima (JP) / Karen Huie (EN)
- Arata Tsuruki — Ryohei Kimura (JP) / Ryan Colt Levy (EN)
- Hazuki Kudo — Yoko Hikasa (JP) / Felecia Angelle (EN)
- Tadakiyo Kudo — Ryotaro Okiayu (JP) / Jason Griffith (EN)
- Fuyu Kudo — Kikuko Inoue (JP) / Monique Shi (EN)
So... what about Season 3?
Season 2 was announced right after Season 1 ended, which is why fans got nervous when that pattern broke. The new 3-episode special does not mean the show is over, and there has been no cancellation announcement. Given how popular this series is, a full Season 3 still feels very possible — just not confirmed yet.
I want another 12 episode season personally
That sentiment is everywhere. Some fans are thrilled we are getting anything; others are openly campaigning for a proper 12-episode run. The special itself might be a bridge: Seasons 1 and 2 covered the first six light novel volumes, and there are three more volumes out with more on the way. A lot of viewers expect the special to cover the marriage material from Volume 7, which would dovetail neatly into Volume 8 (and beyond) if and when Season 3 happens. Also worth noting: Kinema Citrus has been steadily continuing multiple titles lately, which makes a future season here feel even more plausible.
The bottom line
We are getting a 3-episode My Happy Marriage special in 2026 on Netflix, directed by Season 1 lead Takehiro Kubota and animated by Kinema Citrus, with Miyo and Kiyoka front and center and wedding vibes all over the key art and teaser. Season 3 is not announced, not canceled, and there is plenty of source material left. If the special adapts Volume 7 as many expect, it sets the table nicely for a full next season.
Where to watch right now
My Happy Marriage Seasons 1 and 2 are streaming on Netflix. The 3-episode special will also stream on Netflix worldwide in 2026 after its Japan premiere.
