The setup going into Episode 5

Episode 5 picks up right after the cliffhanger with Hye-ji showing up in Muchang. That’s a problem for Yeong-ran, who’s been trying to stay invisible under the alias Bu Se-mi while keeping tabs on everyone from just off-camera. Meanwhile, Dong-min’s radar is warming up, which is exactly what Yeong-ran doesn’t need.

Quick catch-up: Episode 4

Episode 4 (October 7) was the one where Yeong-ran tried to blend in by teaching self-defense to kindergarteners — bold strategy, mixed results. In Seoul, Sun-yeong officially filed a missing persons report on Yeong-ran, so the outside pressure is mounting. Back in Muchang, Hye-jin finds Sung-ho’s secret chamber and uncovers Yeong-ran’s real identity. Yes, the coverage uses both Hye-jin and Hye-ji — the character who turns up at the end is referred to as Hye-ji, and it reads like the same person who snooped earlier. And just when Dong-min almost discovers Yeong-ran’s surveillance setup, she gets a little too close for comfort to throw him off. The episode ends with Hye-ji arriving in Muchang, and that’s where Episode 5 resumes.

Why the buzz is picking up

Ratings and fan chatter have been on the rise — especially after Episode 4 landed over the Chuseok holiday. The show stars Jeon Yeo-been (Vincenzo), Jung Jin-young (Love in the Moonlight), and Jang Yoon-ju (Veteran), and it feels like audiences finally locked in after the last cliffhanger.

What to expect next

With Hye-ji now on Yeong-ran’s turf and Dong-min getting suspicious, Yeong-ran’s low-profile routine is about to get stress-tested. Expect Episode 5 to lean into tighter cover stories, riskier improvising, and more of that small-town pressure-cooker vibe that keeps threatening to blow her cover.
