The Monsterverse roars again as Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 pits Godzilla and Kong against a shadowy new terror: Titan X.

Apple is bringing Monarch: Legacy of Monsters back for Season 2, and the Monsterverse is about to throw another giant problem at humanity. New Titans, bigger stakes, and yes, Godzilla and Kong are both getting in on it. Here is the lay of the land, plus the full release plan.

Where Season 2 sits in the Monsterverse

Monarch continues to thread its story through the modern Monsterverse timeline, digging into the secretive organization that has been tracking Titans since its earliest days. The show bounces between past and present, slotting its present-day storyline between 2014's Godzilla and Godzilla: King of the Monsters. While the films swing for city-levelling spectacle, the series keeps its focus tight on the fallout for the people left picking up the pieces after San Francisco.

The cast returns with Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell both playing Lee Shaw across different eras (yes, father and son playing the same guy; still great casting), alongside Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Joe Tippett, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, and Takehiro Hira. Godzilla made himself known in Season 1; Season 2 is lining up an even bigger headache.

Season 2 release plan

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 premieres on Apple TV on February 27, 2026, and runs for 10 episodes, dropping weekly. Episodes are about an hour each. The first season posted new chapters at 12 a.m. PT / 3 a.m. ET on release day; this time, Apple is expected to use its current primetime rollout, which means Thursday evenings around 6 p.m. PT / 9 p.m. ET. Translation: you may be able to hit play as early as the night of February 26. The finale lands May 1, 2026.

What to expect this time

Kong barely showed up in Season 1 until the end, but the new season is giving him real screen time, with Godzilla stomping back in too. Russell's Lee Shaw has been teasing a threat so big it may take both Titans working in tandem. That raises an eyebrow for timeline diehards, since Godzilla and Kong do not officially meet until Godzilla vs. Kong. The show likes to play in the margins, so expect a creative workaround rather than a canon crash.

The mystery this year is Titan X, a looming new heavyweight that could be an original creation or a blast from Godzilla's rogues gallery. Monarch will finally pull the curtain on what, exactly, Titan X is, and why it matters. Meanwhile, the character side has plenty in the air: Shaw is still stuck in Hollow Earth, and Keiko is trying to find her footing after jumping through time. The series keeps threading multiple eras to stay in step with the films, which is ambitious and, when it clicks, very satisfying.

Early scorecard

Season 2 currently sits at 78% on Rotten Tomatoes, a notch below Season 1's 86%, but still in the clearly-positive zone. In other words: expect a crowd-pleaser with a few sharp edges as the episodes roll out.
