Mint and Dill Turn Simple Cheese Into a Crowd-Pleasing Appetizer in Minutes
Buffet-ready and sure to win over the whole family, this crowd-pleaser is set to steal the show at your next gathering.
When people show up and you have zero bandwidth to cook, this herby whipped cheese spread earns big points for very little effort. It is creamy, fresh, a little garlicky, and the mint-dill combo wakes everything up. It looks party-ready, takes minutes, and plays perfectly with crunchy things or crisp veggies.
What you need
- Cream cheese - 150 g
- Feta - 100 g
- Fresh dill - 2 to 3 sprigs (about 10 g)
- Fresh mint - 3 to 4 leaves (about 5 g)
- Garlic - 1 small clove
- Lemon juice - 0.5 tsp
- Freshly ground black pepper - a pinch
- Salt - to taste (often unnecessary; feta brings plenty)
How to make it
1. Prep the fresh stuff. Rinse and pat dry the dill and mint, then chop them finely. Peel the garlic and press it or grate it on the fine side.
2. Get the base creamy. In a bowl, combine the cream cheese with crumbled feta and mix until smooth and spreadable. If your feta is on the firm side, mash it with a fork first so it blends easily.
3. Layer in flavor. Add the garlic, chopped dill and mint, lemon juice, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly so the herbs and seasoning are evenly distributed. Taste, then add a little salt only if it truly needs it.
4. Make it presentable. Spoon the mixture into a small serving bowl. Feeling extra? Shape it into one larger cheese ball or a few mini balls and roll them in finely chopped herbs. A sprig of mint and a bit of dill on top never hurt.
5. Chill time. Park it in the fridge for 15 to 20 minutes. The texture firms up slightly and the flavors settle in nicely.
Serve it with
Toasted crispbreads, crunchy crackers, and fresh slices of cucumber, radish, or sweet bell pepper. High reward, very low effort, and the whole table goes quiet for a minute. That kind of recipe.
