Mindy Kaling Names the Worst Man on Sex and the City, and Her Pick is Pretty Obvious
The iconic writer has no competition when it comes to trashing an entitled male character.
In honour of Sex and the City's silver anniversary, Vanity Fair has reignited one of the most significant discussions about HBO's signature romantic series. After publishing an article about the classic show, the magazine asked its Instagram followers to decide which of its male characters was the worst. The responses indicated that time hadn't changed anything.
Six seasons, 94 episodes, two spinoffs, two movies, and 25 years after Carrie Bradshaw gave us our first glimpse into her dating life, people still can't agree on who the worst guy in the SATC universe is.
From Mr. Big and Aidan Shaw to Jack Berger and Aleksandr Petrovsky, who was Carrie's worst boyfriend? Who ruined her life the most? Whose behaviour was the most appalling on the show? Who was simply toxic and unbearable? There appears to be no consensus among viewers. Something tells us that opinions will still be divided even in another two and a half decades.
However, we can see whose name gets mentioned the most and appreciate the creativity and humour in people's arguments. Frankly, reading humorous comments trashing the various male characters on the show is a joy in itself. Mindy Kaling has mastered this art to near perfection. The renowned comedian wrote a comment that really resonated with many SATC fans as it clicked perfectly with the most popular sentiment.
‘Big!!!! Ultimate time wasting vill and then he kicked the bucket. Boy bye,’ Kaling wrote under the post and proceeded to get over five thousand likes on her comment.
Who could have put it more eloquently and in a more fun manner than the legendary writer? Even though Big was the ultimate romantic choice in the original show, and some fans still adore him, the majority seem to agree that he was the most toxic presence in the entire series with his pervasive entitlement, machismo, deceit, relationship drama, disregard for women's feelings, and other objectionable traits and actions. It is, therefore, no surprise that many viewers, like Kaling, were pleased to see Big exit the spinoff after his death on the Peloton.
‘I feel like the glorification of her infatuation with Big is one of the reasons for toxic relationships being romanticised for my generation,’ one user commented on Mindy Kaling's reply, highlighting why the new romantic storylines in the SATC universe need careful consideration.
