Miley Cyrus Joins Avatar: Fire and Ash — What We Know So Far

Thirteen years separated the first two Avatar films; the third, Fire and Ash, lands in a couple of months—and Miley Cyrus just revealed she’s in it.
James Cameron took 13 years to get us from Avatar to The Way of Water, but the next chapter is basically around the corner. And now Miley Cyrus is in the mix with an original song for Avatar: Fire and Ash. Did not have that on my 2025 bingo card, but here we are.
The movie: new clans, old enemies
- Jake Sully and his family square off against the Ash People - also known as the Mangkwan Clan - an aggressive, fire-driven tribe that aligns itself with returning bad guy Colonel Quaritch.
- Another new group arrives: the Wind Traders, led by Peylak, played by Harry Potter alum David Thewlis.
- The Sullys are still reeling from the death of Neteyam, Jake and Neytiri's eldest, which is going to reshape the family dynamic going forward.
The Miley piece
The Avatar movies have a thing for big original songs. The first film had Leona Lewis with 'I See You.' The Way of Water brought in The Weeknd with 'Nothing Is Lost (You Give Me Strength).' Now Miley Cyrus is up next with a new track called 'Dream As One' for Fire and Ash, which she announced on Instagram.
She says she wrote it with regular heavy hitters Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, and based on the short snippet she teased, fans are already predicting awards talk. Too early to call anything, but the Academy does announce 2026 Oscar nominations on January 22, so we will see where this lands.
'Honored to support Avatar: Fire and Ash with an original song I have written with Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt. Having been personally affected by fire and being rebuilt from the ashes, this project holds profound meaning for me.'
'Thank you, Jim, for the opportunity to turn that experience into musical medicine. The film's themes of unity, healing, and love resonate deeply within my soul, and to be even a small star in the universe the Avatar family has created is truly a dream come true.'
Translation: this one is personal for her, and Cameron clearly wanted a song that taps into the movie's themes without just repeating the greatest-hits ballad playbook.
You will be able to hear 'Dream As One' in full when Avatar: Fire and Ash hits theaters on December 19, 2025. A couple of months away. Not bad for a franchise that once kept us waiting over a decade.
