Michael C. Hall may be forever tied to Dexter’s blood-soaked brilliance, but fans often overlook a gripping turn he delivered in another acclaimed series with an 81 percent Rotten Tomatoes score — a reminder of just how lethal his range really is.

Michael C. Hall will always be Mr. Blood Slide to most of us, but his TV career is a little broader than the plastic-wrap memes suggest. Yes, he is back prowling around Miami in a new Dexter chapter, but he also once popped up on The Crown as John F. Kennedy. And there is a new movie on deck. Let’s run through the highlights, because there are a few moving parts here.

First, a quick reminder: Hall as JFK on The Crown

Buried under all the Dexter buzz is the fact that Hall played President John F. Kennedy on The Crown. He turns up in Season 2, Episode 8, titled 'Dear Mrs. Kennedy'. Jackie is played by Jodi Balfour (you may know her from Ted Lasso; she also writes and directs). For the stats-minded: The Crown as a whole sits at 81% on Rotten Tomatoes and an 8.6/10 on IMDb, and that specific episode is a 9.1/10 on IMDb. It is a strong one.

Now, the Dexter situation

Hall’s calling card is still Dexter, the 2006 thriller series that blew up into a phenomenon. After that original run, he stepped back into the universe in 2024 for 'Dexter: Original Sin' as a voice-over narrator — a smaller on-screen footprint, but yes, still in the world.

The current chapter is being referred to as 'Dexter: Resurrection', with Hall once again playing Dexter Morgan. According to Variety, Paramount+ renewed it for Season 2 last month. ComicBook reports the writers room got together in early October, the writing is expected to take about five months, and showrunner Clyde Phillips is eyeing production prep around February or March next year, with cameras set to roll on April 13, 2026. That April date is oddly specific, and the timeline leaves a sizable gap between finishing scripts and starting to shoot, but that is what is being floated right now.

  • The Crown: 81% on Rotten Tomatoes, 8.6/10 on IMDb; S2E8 'Dear Mrs. Kennedy' is 9.1/10 on IMDb
  • Dexter (franchise): 71% on Rotten Tomatoes; the original series is listed at 8.6/10 on IMDb
  • Dexter: Resurrection: the report also cites a 95% Rotten Tomatoes score and a 9.1/10 on IMDb for this entry
  • Dexter: Original Sin (2024): Hall participated as a voice-over narrator
  • Resurrection Season 2 status: renewed at Paramount+ per Variety
  • Writers room: assembled in early October, with roughly five months of scripting underway
  • Target filming start: April 13, 2026, per showrunner Clyde Phillips via ComicBook

And yes, there is a new movie: Stratagem

Hall is also headed back to the big screen. The Hollywood Reporter says he is starring in a thriller called 'Stratagem' alongside Noomi Rapace (Prometheus, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows) and Teo Yoo (Past Lives). Michael Idov is directing. No release date yet.

The setup: CIA agent Stella Turner recruits a tech prodigy, Daniel Sim, to prevent a leak of U.S. secrets. Clean, tense premise. We will see how twisty it gets.

'Dexter: Resurrection' is streaming on Paramount+.
