Metroid Prime 4: Beyond amiibo aren’t required, but they deliver exclusive skins, cosmetics, and a gameplay-impacting perk. Before you drop cash on the pricey figures, see every unlock and reward they add.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond hooks into amiibo, and no, you don't need them to play. But if you like skins, extra little toys, and a couple actual perks, there's real stuff here. Before you blow money on figures, here's exactly what each one does and what's actually worth your time.

Quick reality check

The in-game scan screen only showcases the three shiny Metroid Prime 4: Beyond figures. Don't let that fool you. Pretty much any Metroid-series amiibo works with this game, and those older figures all unlock the same thing. The new three are the ones with the good, varied rewards.

Every Metroid-series amiibo that works

  • Dark Samus (Super Smash Bros Ultimate)
  • Samus Aran (Varia Suit, standing)
  • Samus Aran (Varia Suit, combat)
  • Samus Aran (Metroid Dread)
  • Metroid (Metroid Dread)
  • E.M.M.I (Metroid Dread)
  • Ridley (Super Smash Bros Ultimate)
  • Zero Suit Samus (Super Smash Bros Ultimate)

What those eight do: they trigger random Metroid Prime 4: Beyond sound effects in the Menu. That's it. The upside: there's no daily limit, so scan away if you just want bleeps and bloops. You won't miss anything by picking one over another; the reward is identical across all eight.

The three Metroid Prime 4: Beyond amiibo (these are the ones with real perks)

Samus & Vi-O-La

This one flips on an Odometer for your Bike, which tracks how far you've ridden. Every 5,000 meters you unlock a new Vi-O-La skin you can equip from the Menu: Samus Varia Theme, Sylux Theme, Metroid Prime Theme, Space Pirate Theme, Ancient Theme, Psychic Era Theme, and Vi-O-La Suit Theme.

There's also a legit gameplay perk: Boost Recovery. Scan the figure in Sol Valley to speed up your Bike's Boost recharge. It's a once-per-day activation, and it shuts off if you leave Sol Valley.

Sylux

Scan it to add Sylux lines and taunts that show up in the Menu, plus an extended bonus cutscene in the Gallery. If you don't have the figure, that cutscene still unlocks by finishing the game with 100% Scan and 100% Item completion.

Samus Aran (Metroid Prime 4: Beyond)

This one gives Samus an Energy Shield that fully heals her and blocks 99 damage. You can only trigger it once per day with a scan; trying to push it past that daily limit won't fly.

It also unlocks the Vi-O-La Radio so you can change the Bike's music while cruising through Sol Valley. You get the Vi-O-La Theme, Volt Forge Theme, and Xelios Theme right away. Finish the game and two more tracks show up: the Metroid Prime Theme and the Metroid Prime 4 Theme.

How to actually scan these things

Press the minus (-) button during play to open the Main Menu, slide over to the amiibo tab on the right, and scan whatever Metroid-series figure you've got. The three Metroid Prime 4: Beyond figures deliver their unique rewards; the rest just fire off random menu sounds.

Release basics

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is developed by Retro Studios and launches December 4, 2025 on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.

Bottom line: if you're only chasing cosmetics and a couple quality-of-life perks, the Samus & Vi-O-La and the new Samus figures are the heavy hitters. The older Metroid amiibo are basically novelty sound buttons. Choose accordingly.
