PR strategists disapprove of the move.

The skirmish within the British royal family started off as a racist scandal around Prince Harry marrying Meghan Markle, an actress of African-American heritage who is best known for her role in Suits.

Back then, the newly minted royal couple proceeded to leave the palace and start their new life in the US.

The situation was further exacerbated by Harry and Meghan's high-profile interview with Oprah Winfrey in which some accusations of the royal family were made, and Prince Harry's recently published memoir Spare couldn't help to mend the damaged relationship with the family. That is the reason many people believed King Charles III's younger son wouldn't be attending his father's coronation on May 6 this year. But apparently, the Duke of Sussex is going to the royal event. However, the Duchess isn't. And experts think it might backfire.

According to Edward Coram James, a PR strategist, it is a blunder of Meghan Markle's to not attend King Charles's coronation. In an interview with the Daily Express, he claims that the Duchess of Sussex was left to deal with the PR mess of her own making after repeatedly taking jabs at the royal family.

James believes that Markle's decision to skip King Charles III's crowning is prompted by her desire to avoid confrontation. However, the PR strategist finds it shortsighted and suggests that the Duchess attend the royalest of events for the sake of saving her public image.

'Meghan has also not helped herself. By snubbing (and often insulting) the royal family, and the work and relationships that come with it, yet accepting the trappings, she may find herself looking like someone trying to have their cake and eat it too,' James' comment reads.

In other words, Meghan comes across as contradictory and dubious in her attempts to criticize the family whose ultimate privileges she accepts and uses. Perhaps, Meghan Markle didn't understand the public expectations of the role she assumed with her marriage to Prince Harry and kept damaging her own image.

'Some will argue that many never wished for Meghan to attend the coronation and are happy that she has not, I believe that her lack of attendance, and the perception of a snub that comes along with it, will make those very people dislike her even more. It is not the strategy that I would have recommended for her,' the PR expert says.

King Charles' coronation is set to take place on May 6, 2023.
