Marvel's got a new habit: announcing a project, hyping it up, and then quietly slipping it under the rug when no one's looking.

The latest victim? Armor Wars, the Don Cheadle-led War Machine spinoff that's gone from headline to ghost story in just a few short years.

Originally announced in 2020 as a Disney+ series, Armor Wars was supposed to dive into what happens when Tony Stark's tech falls into the wrong hands. By 2022, Marvel changed course, saying it was now a movie, not a show. But after that? Silence.

Now, insider Alex Perez (via The Cosmic Circus) says Marvel's basically started pulling the whole thing apart and handing out its scraps. According to him, a lot of the Armor Wars ideas have been moved into other shows, like VisionQuest — which already has Ultron, Jocasta, E.D.I.T.H., and even Tommy Maximoff reportedly cast — and Wonder Man, which is still set to release in December 2025.

But the biggest loss? Rhodey's actual arc.

Perez claims Armor Wars was originally supposed to explore how Rhodey copes after being replaced by a Skrull in Secret Invasion, and what that meant for his experiences across the timeline. Early drafts supposedly placed the swap as far back as Captain America: Civil War, but online backlash forced Marvel to shift it later. Fans were not happy with the idea that Rhodey in Endgame wasn't really Rhodey.

That arc might now be gone entirely.

Another thing reportedly cut? The legacy of Tony Stark. Armor Wars was meant to explore how Tony's death affected the people closest to him — including the return of Pepper Potts and Morgan Stark, which would've been Gwyneth Paltrow's first MCU appearance since Endgame.

Instead, most of that seems shelved or reallocated. Marvel hasn't officially canceled Armor Wars, but no release date, no new casting news, no director updates — nothing. The project's in limbo, and if history's any indication, "limbo" often means "buried."

Right now, VisionQuest is moving forward. Wonder Man is (allegedly) still on the slate. But as for Armor Wars? If Don Cheadle's War Machine movie does happen, it probably won't look anything like what was promised back in 2020.

And if it doesn't happen? Marvel may just pretend it never existed.
