If you've been avoiding theaters like the plague but still want to watch rich people self-destruct in designer outfits, you might not have to wait long.

Materialists, Celine Song's glossy, sharp-edged follow-up to Past Lives, opened in U.S. theaters on June 13, and it looks like it'll be heading to your living room faster than expected.

According to When To Stream, the film is expected to hit digital platforms on July 22 — just over a month after its theatrical debut. That's pretty typical for A24, which has made a habit of speedrunning the gap between limited release and at-home viewing.

After that? If it follows the same pattern as other recent A24 titles like Babygirl, you can expect Materialists to land on Max sometime in October 2025 — assuming the deal between A24 and Warner Bros. Discovery hasn't quietly imploded by then.

Here's where the numbers currently stand:

  • Theatrical release: June 13
  • Digital on-demand: July 22 (projected)
  • Max streaming release: October 2025 (estimated)
  • Global box office: ~$46 million

Not bad for a talky, self-aware rom-com set in a city where rent alone could kill most relationships.

The film stars Dakota Johnson as Lucy, a New York matchmaker who arranges relationships for the ultra-wealthy like they're real estate deals. Things go sideways (shocker) when she's forced to choose between two love interests: Chris Evans as her broke-but-sincere ex, and Pedro Pascal as a hedge fund cartoon come to life. Emotional chaos ensues.

Materialists made its debut at Cannes in May, got decent festival buzz, and has since become a low-key hit with indie audiences who still remember what it's like to watch adults have complicated conversations without laser beams or multiverse portals.

No official word from A24 yet, because of course not — but if you're already planning to rent or stream it, you probably won't be waiting much longer.

Just try not to fall in love with any hedge fund managers in the meantime.
