Marvel locks in new release windows for X-Men 97 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man — and Venom is set to crash one of them.

Marvel Animation rolled into New York Comic Con with updates on two of its alt-timeline shows, and there is a lot to unpack: new seasons, a major villain back in the mix, and a certain red-suited lawyer crashing Peter Parker's high school years. Also, because of course, the trailers shown in the room still are not online.

X-Men '97: season 2 timing and a season 3 lock

Disney+ revived the 90s classic in March 2024, and the ride is not slowing down. Season 2 of X-Men '97 is set to drop in summer 2026, and Marvel has already given the green light to season 3. The NYCC footage (again, not released publicly) confirmed a very not-dead-yet return: Apocalypse is back. The team is split up across different eras, with familiar faces like Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Jubilee, and Nightcrawler trying to navigate their way back to the 1990s after getting tossed into both the past and the future. It is the kind of timey-wimey chaos this show thrives on.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man: season 2 swings in fall 2026

Marvel's prequel-ish Spider-Man series launched in January 2025 and follows Peter Parker early in his crime-fighting career. Season 2 arrives in fall 2026, and the NYCC trailer delivered a pile of reveals. The biggie: Venom is on deck. On top of that, Charlie Cox's Daredevil is back in animated form, and the show is pulling in heavy hitters from Spidey's orbit and rogues gallery.

What NYCC showed (but did not post online)

  • X-Men '97: Apocalypse returns; the X-Men are scattered through time and trying to get back to the 90s; key players include Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Jubilee, and Nightcrawler.
  • Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man: the Venom symbiote is introduced; Gwen Stacy joins; Charlie Cox's Daredevil returns; Norman and Harry Osborn are back; villains include Doctor Octopus, Chameleon, and Scorpion; Nico Minoru starts tapping into her magic.

Quick context check

Both shows live in alternate timelines, separate from the main MCU continuity. X-Men '97 is a modern continuation of the original 90s animated series (developed by Beau DeMayo). Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man comes from Jeff Trammell and explores the early, pre-Avengers Peter Parker era.

If you want to catch up, season 1 of both series is streaming now on Disney+.
