Scorsese keeps it in the family: Wolf of Wall Street alum Welker White joins Apple’s What Happens at Night, reuniting with the director and Leonardo DiCaprio for his next thriller.

Martin Scorsese is stacking his next Apple-backed thriller with another familiar face. Welker White has joined What Happens at Night, and if you know her work with Scorsese, you can probably guess why that feels right.

Welker White is back in Scorsese world

White has popped up in some of Scorsese's biggest runs: GoodFellas, The Wolf of Wall Street, The Irishman, and Killers of the Flower Moon. Now she is reuniting with him on What Happens at Night, a psychological thriller that started filming in February in Prague and will shift to New York later on. Her character is being kept quiet for now.

The story they are telling

The film adapts Peter Cameron's 2020 novel about an American couple who head to a snowbound European town to adopt a baby. They check into a nearly deserted hotel, start meeting strange locals, and the whole trip slides into an unsettling haze. It is an icy setup with plenty of room for Scorsese to play with mood.

Why White is a savvy pick

Beyond her Scorsese track record, White has range for days: Dead Poets Society, Bad Education, This Is My Life, and The Forty-Year-Old Version. She also turns up in Jonah Hill's upcoming Apple film Outcome alongside Keanu Reeves. That mix of prestige and character work fits the tone of this project.

Where this is all headed

The production pace suggests a 2027 release window, though Apple has yet to set a date. Scorsese directs and produces through Sikelia Productions, with Daniel Lupi, Jennifer Lawrence, and Leonardo DiCaprio also producing. Apple Studios is backing the film with StudioCanal, which picked up rights to the novel in 2023. It marks Scorsese's second team-up with Apple after Killers of the Flower Moon. The Prague-to-New York path and the long runway signal a big, careful swing.
