Marshals showrunner Spencer Hudnut weighs in on whether Yellowstone icons Rip Wheeler and Beth Dutton could ride into the CBS spinoff, offering a fresh update on crossover odds.

Yellowstone fans keep asking the same question: are Rip and Beth going to stroll into CBS' Marshals and glare the bad guys into submission? The showrunner finally weighed in, and the answer is... complicated.

So, are Rip and Beth showing up?

Spencer Hudnut, who runs Marshals, was asked point-blank about cameos from Rip Wheeler and Beth Dutton. He left the door cracked, without actually opening it:

"You know, Kayce still has a sister and brother-in-law who are out there, so, that's always potentially on the horizon. I don't know how we would make all that work."

Translation: they exist in the world, and the show is open to using them if the story (and schedules) line up. But there is no plan locked for Season 1.

A tiny breadcrumb in Episode 2

The series tossed in a small but telling update. In Marshals Season 1, Episode 2, Kayce talks to his son Tate about who is handling East Camp now that Kayce has taken the U.S. Marshal badge. Kayce mentions that Rip already stepped up, at least for now:

"Rip found some hands 'til I can find a more permanent solution."

That tracks with where Yellowstone left things in December 2024: Beth and Rip moved to a ranch in Dillon, Montana once the flagship series wrapped, which puts them away from Marshals' primary setting.

Who else is crossing over?

Hudnut confirmed that a couple of familiar faces from the broader Yellowstone world will pop up before Season 1 ends. He also made it clear the show is keeping its options open for franchise characters whenever the story supports it. As of now, Rip and Beth are not on the Season 1 board.

Meanwhile, the bigger Rip-and-Beth play

If you are holding out for a full-on return, that is coming in a different corner of the universe. Rip Wheeler and Beth Dutton are set to headline the upcoming Paramount+ series The Dutton Ranch, with both characters front and center.

  • Marshals airs Sundays on CBS at 8:00 PM ET and 5:00 PM PT.
  • After Yellowstone ended in December 2024, Beth and Rip relocated to a ranch in Dillon, Montana.
  • Their new base keeps them geographically separate from Marshals, which explains the light-touch mentions so far.
  • Season 1 of Marshals will feature a couple of Yellowstone-universe guest spots, just not Rip and Beth (for now).
  • Rip and Beth will lead the Paramount+ spinoff The Dutton Ranch.
