Mandy Is Fun, but Young Sheldon Fans Thinks Georgie Already Had the Perfect Girlfriend
Way back in the series, it turned out to be the best relationship Georgie ever had.
Summary
- Georgie and Mandy seem to be the main characters on Young Sheldon right now.
- Many fans consider Georgie's relationship with his first real-life crush to be his best.
- They shared a deep connection that he and Mandy lack.
Young Sheldon is currently one of the most popular shows on television. Named after TBBT's Dr. Sheldon Cooper, the spin-off has ironically focused more on his family than the title character over the course of seven seasons on the air. Thus, Shelly's older brother Georgie and his wife (sorry for the spoiler) Mandy seem to have taken the stage as the prequel's central characters.
Given Mandy and Georgie's complicated history, it's no surprise that they're getting a lot of attention. The two characters have come a long way and overcome many difficulties to get to where they are now, and it's been an exciting journey for the audience to follow. Plus, Mandy's feisty attitude makes her very popular with Young Sheldon fans. Still, it seems she'll never be as beloved as Georgie's former love interest.
The First Crush
Over the course of Young Sheldon's run, Georgie has dated quite a few girls, but there are only two that really matter – Mandy, who is his wife and the mother of his daughter Cece (again, sorry for the spoiler), and Veronica, his first real-life crush. While Georgie and Mandy's arc is fascinating, his and Veronica's story was absolutely adorable and, sadly, heartbreaking.
Back in Seasons 2 and 3, when Georgie was just a kid, he met Veronica Duncan, a girl from his school who was a year older and had a reputation for being libidinous and easy. Brimming with teenage hormones, Georgie was determined to have his way with her. But despite his unseemly motives, their relationship blossomed into something beautiful when Veronica decided to reform and Georgie helped her get away from her abusive family.
While still pursuing her romantically, Georgie grew as a person, caring for and courting Veronica, culminating in him giving her a candy necklace.
Unfortunately, the romance between them never materialized, and Georgie moved on to other girls while Veronica still kept his silly gift. The scene of her crying over him while looking at the necklace in her car is still considered one of the strongest on Young Sheldon.
Veronica + Georgie = Perfection
On the one hand, Georgie and Veronica never dated, and calling her his girlfriend is a stretch. On the other hand, their connection, the level of affection, and the effect they had on each other still haunts many YS fans who can't get over the fact that the two characters never even held hands.
Sure, the spin-off is a comedy, and Mandy and Georgie's relationship provides that in spades. But the realization that he could have had something deeper with Veronica is hard to get over. What's even sadder is that she was just written off the show.
Hopefully, Veronica will make an appearance either in the remaining episodes of Young Sheldon – Episode 9 of Season 7 premieres on April 25 – or in the upcoming Georgie and Mandy-centric spin-off.
