Major Update All but Confirms The Night Agent Season 4
Major update signals The Night Agent is already eyeing Season 4. Netflix still hasn’t set a Season 3 date for the Gabriel Basso-led hit, nearly a year after its 10-episode second run.
Netflix just nudged The Night Agent a big step closer to sticking around longer than expected, and yes, it involves tax credits, geography, and that very Hollywood dance of pretending something isn’t official while quietly acting like it is.
The new development
Deadline reports the show has landed a $31.6 million California tax credit at a 40% rate. Translation: the production is packing up its primary shoot from New York City and relocating to Los Angeles. That kind of award usually doesn’t arrive unless a season is actually happening, which is why this looks a lot like a de facto Season 4 confirmation.
To underline the point: Netflix hasn’t formally renewed The Night Agent for Season 4, but the writers room for Season 4 has already started. So, no announcement… but the work is underway. Make of that what you will.
Where things stand with Season 3
Season 3 is due next year, but there’s still no release date. It’s been almost a year since Season 2 dropped its 10 episodes, which pulled an 86% Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. In other words, the show did its job, and Netflix looks very interested in keeping the momentum going.
Who is behind it (and who is in it)
The Night Agent comes from creator and executive producer Shawn Ryan, based on Matthew Quirk’s novel. Gabriel Basso leads the series.
- Returning cast: Gabriel Basso, Luciane Buchanan, Amanda Warren, Louis Herthum, Berto Colon, Michael Malarkey, Keon Alexander, Hong Chau, Arienne Mandi, Brittany Snow, Teddy Sears, Navid Negahban, Rob Heaps
- Season 3 adds: Jennifer Morrison, Stephen Moyer, David Lyons, Genesis Rodriguez, Suraj Sharma, Callum Vinson
What the show is now pitching
Netflix has updated the show’s synopsis to reflect where Peter Sutherland is headed after the first two runs. If you want the official flavor text, here it is:
"The series is a sophisticated, character-based, action-thriller centering on a low-level FBI Agent, Peter Sutherland, whose efforts to save The President in Season 1 earn him an opportunity to become a Night Agent in Season 2. But working in the secretive organization of Night Action will propel Peter into a world where danger is everywhere and trust is in short supply."
Bottom line
A hefty California tax credit and a move to Los Angeles strongly suggest Season 4 is basically a formality, even if Netflix won’t say it out loud yet. For now, we wait on a Season 3 date while the show quietly gears up for more.
