Maddie Hasson’s Erotic Horror Bone Lake Hits Digital—Dare You Press Play?
Three weeks after carving into theaters, Maddie Hasson’s gory erotic horror Bone Lake has slashed its way to digital.
Quick one for your watchlist: Bleecker Street put the erotic horror thriller Bone Lake in theaters on October 3, and now, three weeks later, it is already on digital. If you want it at home, it is up on Amazon to rent or buy.
The pitch
The setup is simple and nasty in a good way: a couple heads to a secluded lakeside estate for a romantic getaway and ends up having to share the mansion with another couple who are very attractive and very hard to read. From there, the vacation turns into a darkly funny, seductive horror spiral built on sex, lies, and manipulation. Secrets come out, things get bloody, and survival is suddenly the only item on the itinerary.
Who is behind it
Bone Lake is directed by Mercedes Bryce Morgan, who previously made the Shudder chiller Spoonful of Sugar. The script is by Joshua Friedlander, the writer of Holly Slept Over.
The cast
- Maddie Hasson, who you probably know from James Wan's Malignant and the short-lived YouTube Red series Impulse (she plays Sage here)
- Marco Pigossi
- Alex Roe
- Andra Nechita
- Eliane Reis
- Clayton Spencer
Early word
JoBlo's Tyler Nichols caught it earlier this month and landed at a 7/10. His take: the mystery is not super deep, but the way the story unfolds is engaging, with the characters constantly running games on each other. It gets heightened without tipping into absurd. He was especially into a revenge thread that kicks in during the second act, and he shouted out Hasson for bringing a quiet, steely presence to Sage. He also thinks this one has a real chance to catch on with audiences.
'One of the most brutal deaths I have seen in a while.'
Where to watch
Bone Lake is out digitally now and available on Amazon to rent or own. Planning to dive in now that it is at home? If you already saw it in theaters, I am curious where you landed on it too.
