Or is there a major unexpected twist coming soon?

In The Big Bang Theory, Sheldon Cooper tells us many things he remembers from his childhood and teenage years. According to Sheldon, the Cooper family wasn't the happiest, as he had an alcoholic and cheating father, a fanatical mother, a moron of an older brother, and a twin sister who was simply too down-to-earth.

Clearly, the young genius was the only 'normal' person in the mix.

And though we also hear the adult Sheldon comment on the events in Young Sheldon, it turns out that the characters surrounding him aren't as clear-cut as he often tries to make them look. So what about Shelly's father and the cheating moment he talked so much about in TBBT?

In Episode 5 of TBBT Season 10, Sheldon shares his traumatic story about how he once came home from college on spring break and found his father in a compromising position with another woman. He and George Sr. never discussed the incident, and his father died a year later.

As the Season 6 finale of Young Sheldon approaches, the intrigue increases. In the show's last episode, titled 'A German Folk Song and an Actual Adult,' Sheldon and Missy are on their spring break, but contrary to everyone's expectations, that most traumatic cheating scene never happens.

However, this may not just be a retcon but a clever move by the writers!

First, we now know that Mary has finally made peace with her neighbor Brenda. When Mandy went into labor and was admitted to the hospital, Mary arrived to find George with Brenda. From then on, she thought there was a love affair between them. Although George and Mary have not yet reconciled, it's quite likely that they will in the next two episodes.

Second, in both shows, we have seen how impressionable Sheldon is and how he fails to read life situations accurately, which often leads to him misinterpreting and overdramatizing certain experiences.

For example, contrary to what Sheldon said on the parent show, we learn that George Sr. is not a heavy drinker (although he does have a minor problem) and that Georgie is not really stupid and cares deeply about the family.

Coming back to the 'cheating' incident, it may turn out that Sheldon did actually see George having sex with someone… who was his own mother Mary in disguise. Seriously, isn't it common for people who have lived together for years to try and rekindle their passion with unusual makeup, costumes, and wigs? And it certainly sounds realistic that Sheldon, not used to seeing his mother in such unusual roles, could mistake her for another woman.

In other words, one of the major dramatic storylines may not be ignored by the writers — on the contrary, they may well remember it and prepare an unexpected twist for us.

The next episode of Young Sheldon will air on April 27 at 8 pm ET on CBS.
