Looks Like WGA Strike Really Affected DWTS Season 32 Premiere
The new installment is somewhat disappointing.
Although the writers' strike is reportedly over, with the guild striking a provisional deal with Hollywood producers, the industry is still facing significant repercussions. Thus, many beloved shows like Young Sheldon and NCIS have not returned for new seasons this fall, and numerous film and TV productions remain on hold.
Given these circumstances, reality, game, and contest shows have come to the fore in the industry. For example, season 32 of ABC's hit competition show, Dancing with the Stars, premiered just a day ago. While the audience is excited about its return, many feel it isn't as good as it once was. Perhaps the WGA strike has had an impact.
Unusually Dull
Over the course of Dancing with the Stars' impressive eighteen-year run across various networks, it has established itself as an exciting show featuring talented performers and unexpected twists. However, season 31 dropped the ball somewhat, as viewers seemingly were tired of the same old concept. Naturally, expectations were high for season 32, but so far, it's proving even more disappointing than the previous installment.
The masterful dances, the essence of Dancing with the Stars, seem to have become significantly shorter. While the show still has talented performers, their acts lack inspiration. Furthermore, the judges' interactions are listless and boring. To make matters worse, this season's celebrity contestants just don't seem to have their heart in it.
Lack of Coordination
One might wonder why a competition show like Dancing with the Stars would need writers. However, they provide the requisite coherence to the progression of the competition while maintaining its live ambiance. Unusual twists and turns are conceived by writers who script the show's framework and provide a basis for interactions.
Writers help coordinate the events and maintain consistency throughout the season. The new installment feels so stale and uninspired because it had no proper writers on account of the WGA strike.
Hopefully, the remainder of the season will not be as disappointing as its premiere. After all, only one episode has aired so far. The next one is scheduled for October 3, and the writers should be getting back to work now.
