Is Netflix trying to sneak in a new project under a popular title?

After the fantasy drama Warrior Nun, based on Ben Dunn's comic book character, was canceled by Netflix in December 2022, all of its fans transformed into brave warriors for a few months.

It was a beautiful story of a heroic confrontation with a massive and powerful adversary (Netflix), battles in public arenas (social media), and a breathtaking victory (revival as a trilogy). Alas, it seems like the months of fighting and campaigning were all for naught.

Things Were Going Really Well At First...

When the news of the show's cancellation broke, fans took to social media and used every possible means of communication with the studio to generate the #SaveWarriorNun buzz and demanded that the disappointing decision be reversed.

Simon Barry, the creator, and showrunner of Warrior Nun, led the charge and celebrated the news of future films that would continue the story with fans.

‘Today I’m happy to officially report that because of your combined voices, passion and amazing efforts - #WarriorNun will return and is going to be more EPIC than you could imagine,’ he wrote on X in June, to the delight and cheers of all proud fans.

...But Then Something Went Very Wrong.

However, the latest developments have shown that fans might have celebrated too soon. Simon Barry tweeted earlier this week, without going into detail, that he was not involved in the production of the films.

‘I am not part of the team producing the movies, and have no deal in place for any writing or directing services,’ he wrote.

Moreover, Amy Berg, the show's writer and consulting producer, confirmed that she is not attached to the project, either.

‘I’m similarly not involved,’ she wrote, quoting Barry's tweet.

Of course, such a shocking development raises an important question:

What Are We Getting Under The Warrior Nun Title?

Without the original creative team, there's no way the trilogy will maintain the same unique vibe and incredible storytelling as the original series.

It's hard to predict with no additional details about the trilogy, but there's a feeling that Netflix executives noticed the social media buzz and decided to capitalize on it by sneaking in something entirely new under the much-hyped title.

It's certainly not what the fans have been campaigning for.
