Looking for TV Shows That No One's Heard Of? We've Got 5 of Them
Go on, be the first to introduce your family and friends to these shows…
There's something uniquely satisfying about being the first to watch a show and recommend it to your friends and family. When they come back and tell you how much they love it, you feel a strange kind of pride in having been the one to find it.
If you're currently in the market for some shows that nobody's ever heard of and for which you can take some vicarious credit, check these out:
1. Devs
Smart, thought-provoking and unique, this series about free will and determinism wouldn't have been out of place at an artsy film festival. Created by Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Annihilation), it has plenty of high quality cinematography, but the story shines through and is definitely the star of the show.
2. Animal Kingdom
A very different show from the aforementioned Kingdom. This US crime drama follows the exploits of J Cody, a teenager who moves in with his family's organised crime element when his mother dies. It's loosely based on the real-life Pettingill family from Melbourne, Australia.
3. Better Things
Pamela Adlon plays a single mother of three struggling through parenthood. It's a comedy-drama that shines a light on the issues facing single-parent families without being judgmental. Although it's predominantly a comedy show, the subject matter allows for some touching moments and it's hard not to like Sam Fox (Adlon), who most people can see themselves or someone they know in. Adlon has won several awards for her performance and the show also stars the amazing Celia Imrie.
4. Kingdom
Netflix's first original Korean series is like Game of Thrones meets your favourite zombie show. Set in the fictional medieval Joseon (now Korea), it has plenty of political intrigue and a fair spattering of zombies. It's part period drama, part horror, and will appeal to anyone who enjoys fantasy shows. But Bridgerton, it ain’t.
5. Man Seeking Woman
This show does what it says on the tin. It's about a slightly reserved man called Josh Greenberg who is in his 20s and looking for love. His adventures will be familiar to many viewers as the writers have been very clever in creating realistic, relatable situations that will make you cringe but definitely root for poor old Josh.
So, get on with it. Check these amazing shows out, decide which one your friends will love and start spreading the word.
