The Summer I Turned Pretty breakout Lola Tung headlines The Young People.

Osgood Perkins is back at it. His next horror movie, The Young People, just rolled cameras, and the first tease is pure nightmare fuel: Lola Tung hovering over a bathtub full of blood. So, yeah, we are off to the races.

Neon announced Day 1 on Twitter on October 21, 2025 with a simple caption: "The Young People. Day 1." The post also credited Perkins for the photo. Production is happening in Vancouver, with Neon aiming to release it in theaters in 2026.

What we know so far

  • Cast: Lola Tung (The Summer I Turned Pretty) and Nico Parker (The Last of Us)
  • Started filming: October 2025
  • Where: Vancouver
  • Distributor: Neon
  • Release window: 2026 theatrical
  • First-look vibe: Tung in a stark white room with scalloped surfaces and a single round window, leaning over a blood-filled tub. Feels sci-fi-horror.

Plot-wise, they are keeping it tight. Perkins posted an image of the script’s first page stamped "The Young People... Blue Revisions/August 22, 2025." More interesting: a sneaky page peeking out above it that reads:

"One of The Old Ones steps forward, drops its robe to reveal - its naked body."

That phrase "The Old Ones" sure sounds like a wink at Lovecraft lore — the ancient, alien, god-adjacent nasties who supposedly ruled Earth once upon a nightmare. Not confirmed, but between that and the antiseptic sci-fi look of the set, the movie seems to be flirting with cosmic horror.

This one will be Perkins' fourth Neon release in three years, which is a wild pace. He broke big with 2024’s Longlegs, the Nicolas Cage and Maika Monroe serial-killer creepfest that basically lived on your timeline all summer. Earlier this year he dropped The Monkey — yes, they are calling it a horror comedy, which is... a choice for a killer toy monkey story — and his next one, Keeper, hits theaters on November 14.

The Young People lands in 2026. Based on the blood tub alone, I am spiritually preparing now.
