IFC drops the official trailer for Violent Ends, a revenge-driven crime thriller starring Billy Magnussen, hitting theaters October 31.

IFC just dropped the trailer for Violent Ends, a revenge-soaked crime thriller led by Billy Magnussen. It hits theaters October 31. Halloween release for a non-horror? Sure. The mood fits.

The setup

Magnussen plays Lucas Frost, a guy born into a crime family who is trying very hard to live like a civilian. He and his fiancee, Emma (Alexandra Shipp), are building a future far from the family business when his cousin Eli blows back into town fresh out of prison. Then things escalate fast: an armed robbery, fallout that turns brutal, and the trailer strongly suggests Emma is murdered. From there, Lucas stops running from the family legacy and leans into it. Hard.

"Set in the Ozark Mountains, Lucas Frost (Magnussen) is an honest man brought up in a crime family whose only legacy is violence. As Lucas tries to make a peaceful life of his own with his fiancee, Emma (Shipp), he is suddenly pulled back into the family business when his cousin, Eli, perpetrates an armed robbery with brutal consequences."

That Ozarks backdrop plus a blood-debt grief spiral gives this one a grim, flinty vibe. Not subtle, but the trailer sells it.
