As the chatter reached a roar, they tuned it out—and made the call that mattered.

Stepping into someone else’s monster-slaying boots is never subtle, and Liam Hemsworth knows it. He’s picking up Geralt’s swords from Henry Cavill on Netflix’s The Witcher, and the noise around that switch has been loud. His solution: tune it all out and get to work.

Hemsworth’s approach: fewer tabs, more Witcher

Talking to Entertainment Weekly ahead of the new season, Hemsworth said the chatter about him taking over as the White Wolf was starting to get in the way. He’s dealt with this kind of thing before, but this time it meant cutting off the source.

There was quite a bit of noise, and I had to put that aside. It started to become a distraction... I just don’t want any of that to affect my way of telling the story that I’m trying to tell. I jumped off social media and the internet most of last year.

Honestly, the only sane move. Fans love Geralt. Fans are also, let’s say, extremely online. Hemsworth says he focused on what he actually loves — making movies, telling stories, acting — and ignored the rest.

Showrunner: big shoes, but room to move

Showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich has finally talked about Henry Cavill’s exit (he left the series in 2022) and what that meant for the new guy on the Continent. She’s clear on two things: Hemsworth understands he’s stepping into a role with history, and he’s not just doing a Henry impression.

According to Hissrich, continuity mattered — keep the DNA of Geralt intact — but Hemsworth also needed space to build his own version so he could stand on his own two feet. That’s some inside baseball for you: the tricky balance between honoring what worked and letting a new actor actually act.

We’ll see how Hemsworth’s take plays when The Witcher returns with season 4 on Netflix on October 30.
