Let's Settle This Once & For All: Should Ted & Rebecca Get Together in Ted Lasso Finale?

Nothing seems to appeal to our sympathy more than other people's love lives. Perhaps this is the reason why we love dramas so much. However, sometimes in TV shows, things turn out even worse than in real life.

Ted Lasso was a hymn to positivity from the outset when its first season premiered in 2020, smack in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic. Its titular character seemed unaffected by any misfortune as he continued to preach a positive outlook on the world.

By the end of season 2, however, he faced a personal drama of his own – his wife, who stayed in America, divorced him.

Although the beloved coach and his ex-spouse ended their marriage on relatively amicable terms, it did take its toll on him. Ted started having irregular panic attacks and generally became less confident in himself, especially after some failed attempts at romance.

Another character whose arc has featured prominently in the show is Rebecca Welton, who has been the main source of drama since the very beginning. Her messy high-profile divorce from her duplicitous husband was, in fact, what kicked off the show's entire story revolving around AFC Richmond, its players and its staff. Busy with avenging her ex-spouse throughout the first season, Rebecca didn't concentrate much on her love life.

Nevertheless, in season two, sh had a reinvigorating affair with the club's new player, Sam Obisanya. Sadly, it withered on the vine, and she's all alone again at the beginning of season 3. Perhaps Ted and Rebecca should hook up romantically, seeing how they're already close friends.

On the one hand, it sounds like a good idea since Rebecca will find family in Ted and his son, while the coach will be in a serious, committed relationship he's craving. On the other hand, the wonderful friendship the two have built while working together may be put at risk. In other words, if Ted and Rebecca don't work out as a couple, they may lose their amicable relationship altogether. Would it really be worth it?

In any case, we have yet to see where Ted Lasso's season 3 is heading. The next episodes stream on Apple TV + on 26 April and 3 May.
