Leaked art reveals Yoshi’s updated design for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, teasing the fan favorite’s 2026 big-screen return in the animated sequel to 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie from directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, inspired by Nintendo’s 2007 classic.

Well, this is delightfully on brand: Yoshi just leaked because of cookies. Yes, cookies.

Yoshi sneaks in via a Pillsbury tie-in

A Pillsbury cookie box tied to 'The Super Mario Galaxy Movie' appears to have revealed Yoshi's character design. The art surfaced online on November 9, 2025, when @Stealth40k posted images from the packaging on Twitter. The box art doesn't just show Yoshi — it also features the Comet Observatory, which is a pretty loud nod to the Galaxy game setting. Consider this Yoshi more or less confirmed for the sequel, just not in the way Nintendo probably hoped.

Also worth noting: packaging leaks like this happen because those boxes get designed and printed way ahead of time. Not glamorous, but it is reliable.

Where this sequel is headed (officially and otherwise)

'The Super Mario Galaxy Movie' hits U.S. theaters on April 3, 2026. It's a sequel to 2023's 'The Super Mario Bros. Movie' and, like the title suggests, it pulls from Nintendo's 2007 'Super Mario Galaxy' game. Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are back in the directors' chairs, and the movie is a Nintendo and Illumination production, with Universal Pictures handling distribution.

Plot-wise, the studio isn't saying anything yet. If you've played the 2007 game, you know the basic shape: Bowser kidnaps Princess Peach, Mario blasts across the universe, and along the way meets Rosalina and the Lumas. Given the Comet Observatory sighting on that cookie box, the Galaxy vibes aren't exactly subtle.

And if you stuck around through the post-credits of the last movie, you probably expected Yoshi to show up here. The cookie box just made that expectation feel a lot less hypothetical.

Who is talking in this one

  • Chris Pratt as Mario
  • Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach
  • Charlie Day as Luigi
  • Jack Black as Bowser
  • Keegan-Michael Key as Toad
  • Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek

Quick catch-up on the first movie

'The Super Mario Bros. Movie' is streaming on Prime Video right now. That one was a monster hit: about $1.3 billion worldwide, the highest-grossing video game adaptation ever, the fifth-highest-grossing animated movie, and the 18th-highest-grossing movie overall. Horvath and Jelenic directed that one, too, so they're basically speedrunning this franchise.
