The box art doesn't just show Yoshi — it also features the Comet Observatory, which is a pretty loud nod to the Galaxy game setting. Consider this Yoshi more or less confirmed for the sequel, just not in the way Nintendo probably hoped.
Also worth noting: packaging leaks like this happen because those boxes get designed and printed way ahead of time. Not glamorous, but it is reliable.

'The Super Mario Galaxy Movie' hits U.S. theaters on April 3, 2026. It's a sequel to 2023's 'The Super Mario Bros. Movie' and, like the title suggests, it pulls from Nintendo's 2007 'Super Mario Galaxy' game. Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are back in the directors' chairs, and the movie is a Nintendo and Illumination production, with Universal Pictures handling distribution.
Plot-wise, the studio isn't saying anything yet. If you've played the 2007 game, you know the basic shape: Bowser kidnaps Princess Peach, Mario blasts across the universe, and along the way meets Rosalina and the Lumas. Given the Comet Observatory sighting on that cookie box, the Galaxy vibes aren't exactly subtle.
