Kpop Demon Hunters won’t budge from Netflix’s top 10, tightening its grip as fresh viewers stream in.

Some movies have legs. 'Kpop Demon Hunters' has a jetpack. Nearly five months after it dropped on Netflix, the animated hit is still camped in the global top 10 and piling up wild numbers.

The numbers (and why Netflix is all-in)

  • 18 weeks since release and it is still sitting at number three on Netflix's global top 10.
  • In under five months, it has crossed 400 million views, according to What's On Netflix.
  • That makes it Netflix's biggest movie ever, bumping 'Red Notice' (the 2021 Dwayne Johnson/Gal Gadot/Ryan Reynolds action flick) out of the top spot.

That kind of heat explains why Netflix is moving fast on the merch machine. The streamer is teaming with both Mattel and Hasbro to roll out dolls, games, and other goodies tied to the film. Working with the two biggest toy companies at the same time for a single title is unusual, to put it lightly.

"Unprecedented"

Netflix is also taking the movie back to theaters for Halloween with a singalong edition. It is a smart victory lap after the film topped the domestic box office earlier this year. On top of that, a sequel is being explored, and a short film is in the mix too. No sign of slowing down for Hunter/x.

So, what is 'Kpop Demon Hunters'?

It follows three girl-group members — Rumi, Mira, and Zoey — who perform as Hunter/x (yes, you might see it stylized as Huntr/x in some places). By day, they are idols; by night, they are part of a long line of demon hunters who use their singing voices to protect the world. Arden Cho, May Hong, and Ji-young Yoo voice the trio. Things get complicated when a rival, demonic boy band called the Saja Boys crashes the party.

Where to watch

'Kpop Demon Hunters' is streaming now on Netflix, with that Halloween singalong headed to theaters soon.
