Kirsten Dunst Reveals How She Really Feels About Spider-Man 4 With Tobey Maguire

Kirsten Dunst is ready to swing back as Mary Jane and reunite with Tobey Maguire for a Spider-Man 4, reigniting hopes for Sam Raimi’s long-shelved sequel.
If you are still holding out hope for Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4, Kirsten Dunst just gave you a tiny glimmer to cling to. She did not announce anything, but she also did not slam the door shut. And yes, the idea on the table involves Peter Parker as a dad.
Where this came from
Mattson Tomlin - the writer on The Batman Part II, which makes this a fun bit of cross-pollination - recently floated his dream pitch for a Tobey Maguire follow-up. No studio deal, no official development, just an idea he put out there:
"Honestly right now my main interest in this respect would be to write a Spider-Man 4 where Tobey's Spider-Man is juggling being a husband and a father. Spider-Man as a father is where I gravitate towards given the last 8 films."
So what did Kirsten Dunst say?
On The Supes Show, Dunst was asked if she would come back as Mary Jane Watson for something like that. She sounded cautious, but not opposed. In her words:
"I never have thought about it... Yeah, that would be cool, right? I mean, I don't know if the fans are into it. I feel like that is an interesting movie, right? Me and Tobey doing that again? But with kids?"
Translation: she is not campaigning for it, she is not shutting it down, and she knows better than to promise anything. But the door is cracked.
The quick refresher and where things stand
- Dunst played MJ opposite Tobey Maguire in Sam Raimi's trilogy: Spider-Man (2002), Spider-Man 2 (2004), and Spider-Man 3 (2007).
- There were plans at Sony Pictures and Marvel for a fourth Raimi/Maguire film after 2007, but it never came together.
- Fan appetite roared back after Maguire swung back in 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home.
- Right now, there is no official Spider-Man 4 with Raimi/Maguire/Dunst in development.
- What is official: Tom Holland's next MCU Spider-Man movie, titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is filming now and scheduled for July 31, 2026.
File this under never say never. Hollywood loves a legacy sequel, Maguire has already dusted off the suit once, and Dunst is at least open to the fatherhood angle. Until an actual announcement happens, though, this is still a what-if.
