Kingpin Outlaws Superheroes — Matt Murdock Mobilizes a Vigilante Army in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2
Daredevil: Born Again producer Sana Amanat opens up on season 2 — and where Marvel’s street‑level saga goes next.
We finally have some actual meat on Daredevil: Born Again season 2, and it comes straight from producer Sana Amanat talking to Empire. If you felt like season 1 set the table, this sounds like the season where Matt flips it.
The creative brief: no brief
"The landscape was open, and that was so liberating. We were like, 'We can do whatever we want'."
That is Amanat describing how season 2 came together. Translation: expect big swings.
Matt Murdock builds a team (his way)
Empire says Matt will spend part of the season assembling a 'vigilante army' to go after Wilson Fisk. Why the escalation? Because Fisk is no longer just the guy in the tailored suit glowering from a penthouse. He is now the mayor of New York City, and he is using that office to outlaw superheroes on his turf.
"What does it mean for Fisk when he's gotten everything he wants? When you give a person whose thirst cannot be quenched his most valued treasure, is it enough? Or does he squeeze his treasure too hard?"
That tease from Amanat is doing a lot of work. If you know your comics, you can probably feel where this might be heading.
The comics echo: Devil's Reign
There is a clear nod here to the Daredevil event Devil's Reign. In that storyline, Kingpin gets his hands on the mind-control powers of Zebediah Killgrave, the Purple Man, and uses them to impose his will on New York. The more he leans on that power, the more violent and unstable he gets, and eventually it costs him the office. None of that is confirmed for the show, but the parallels are not subtle.
Jessica Jones is in the mix
Krysten Ritter is officially back as Jessica Jones in season 2. Given her history with Killgrave, the Purple Man angle suddenly feels a lot less hypothetical. Amanat says Jessica's reason for showing up is not about capes and camaraderie; it is about something she cannot ignore.
"[Jones] isn't necessarily a team-up kind of person. So the reason she's back is because it feels like it's very personal. She brings edginess and lightness - Daredevil can be very dark and dramatic, and she cuts through the BS in a really fun way."
If Fisk is messing with mind-control adjacent nastiness, that would qualify as 'personal' for her. Even if he is not, expect her to slice through Matt's Catholic angst like a hot knife.
