King Charles' Coronation Guest List: 10 High-Profile Guests Expected to Attend
Many important guests will attend the event, from other royals to world leaders and heads of charities.
The British monarchy has been under scrutiny for ages. In fact, opinion polls on the royals' popularity were already conducted during Queen Victoria's reign. Perhaps, this is why the Windsors care so much about their public image.
In the last 50 years, Buckingham Palace has seen much turmoil that put the very existence of monarchy in Britain in question. But even though the royals may not be as loved and celebrated today as they once were, the royal family are still considered among the world's most important and influential people. And this is clearly evidenced by the list of high-profile invitees to King Charles III's coronation.
Here are just ten people from the list whom you definitely know.
-
Prince of Wales
Next in line to the throne, Prince William will undoubtedly be attending his father's crowning ceremony. For him, it may well be a repetition of his own coronation that will surely take place one day. It's a nice thing when you can learn from your elders, right?
-
Princess of Wales
The wife of Prince William, Kate Middleton, will also be present at the royalest of events. Of course, Kate and William's children are on the list of invitees too.
-
Duke of Sussex
Although Prince Harry has soured his relationship with the family even further when he released his memoir Spare earlier this year, he will still be attending his father's coronation on May 6. Meghan Markle, however, decided not to come as she wants to celebrate her son's fourth birthday in California instead.
-
Rishi Sunak
As you might expect, the newly minted Prime Minister will be present at his King's crowning ceremony. The other members of the British Cabinet will be attending the event, too.
-
Queen of Denmark
Margrethe II, the other longest-ruling European queen after Charles III's late mother, is invited to the coronation along with many other monarchs from all over the globe.
-
US President
Joe Biden is on the long list of international high-profile guests expected to attend the coronation.
-
Prime Minister of Canada
Justin Trudeau is invited to the royal ceremony.
-
Prime Minister of Australia
Anthony Albanese is another PM of a Commonwealth country to attend the coronation.
-
Prime Minister of New Zealand
New to the position, Chris Hipkins is invited as New Zealand's representative.
-
President of the EU
Although the UK and the EU parted their ways during Brexit, they still have very tightly-knit relations. Consequently, Ursula von der Leyen will be an honorary guest at King Charles' crowning.
These are but a small fraction of those invited to the ceremony. King Charles' coronation is set to take place on May 6, 2023.
