Netflix has locked Brenda Song, Nikki Glaser, and Fortune Feimster to star opposite Kim Kardashian in The Fifth Wheel, a comedy about best friends whose reunion is gate-crashed by a stranger, a star-packed project in development since November 2023.

Netflix just packed Kim Kardashian's first big comedy for the streamer with a trio of comedy ringers. Brenda Song ('The Last Showgirl'), Nikki Glaser ('Trainwreck'), and Fortune Feimster ('Zootopia 2') are on board for 'The Fifth Wheel' as a group of longtime best friends whose reunion goes sideways thanks to an unexpected plus-one. This thing has been percolating since November 2023, and now the core cast is locked.

Official gist: a bunch of high school friends try to reconnect on a Vegas weekend. A hot outsider crashes the trip, and suddenly everyone has to deal with messy lives, bad decisions, and friendships that are not as sturdy as they thought.

The essentials

  • Cast: Kim Kardashian leads, with Brenda Song, Nikki Glaser, and Fortune Feimster playing the best-friends crew.
  • Director: Eva Longoria, fresh off 'Flamin' Hot'.
  • Writers: Paula Pell ('Girls5eva') and Janine Brito ('Mr. Mayor').
  • Producers: Paula Pell, Kim Kardashian, Jessica Elbaum, Will Ferrell, and Alex Brown for Gloria Sanchez Productions.
  • Executive producers: Mary Bundy and David Hyman.
  • Additional producing muscle: Cris Abrego and Longoria's Hyphenate Media Group.
  • Status: In development since November 2023.

Quick behind-the-scenes note: that producing lineup is loaded, which usually means Netflix wants this one to feel big, loud, and very commercial.

This is also a tidy bit of synergy for the streamer. Glaser recently popped up in Netflix's Tom Brady Roast. Brenda Song, a former Disney Channel star, is returning for 'Running Point' season 2 at Netflix. And Feimster was just in Arnold Schwarzenegger's action-comedy series 'FUBAR' for the platform.

As for Kardashian, she was most recently on Hulu in the legal drama 'All's Fair' — reviews were rough, but it still landed a second-season renewal. She is also attached to star in 'Group Chat' with Yaya DaCosta and Rebecca Rittenhouse.

No release date yet, but with the cast set and Longoria directing, expect this Vegas trip to leave a mark.
