Agents of the Counter Terrorist Unit, get ready, you have 24 hours to carry out a special operation! The mission is to rescue Jack Bauer from Russian captivity.

This could have been the beginning of a sequel to the series 24, but alas, Bauer's fate was left open. But it seems that new ideas are also brewing in the production circles.

Moreover, the legendary Kiefer Sutherland, who played defender of the American nation and terrorist menace Jack Bauer, would love to return to the cult show. And he clearly has original ideas about how to make the project appealing to old fans and newcomers alike.

The series follows a courageous agent of the fictional Counter Terrorist Unit who does his best to ensure national security by thwarting various terrorist plots.

The main features of the series were the cynicism of the protagonist, guided by the principle "the end justifies the means", as well as the format of the show. Each season was dedicated to one day and consisted of 24 one-hour episodes, using the concept of real time. That seems to be what Sutherland is betting on.

According to the interview with EW, the actor discusses the future of 24 with its showrunners on a regular basis.

"You introduce a new cast of people in their effort to get him [Bauer] out, and it lives on from that point. There's a lot of ways to go about it," Sutherland says. The main series finished with Bauer being taken to Moscow to be punished by the Russian government.

Nonetheless, the actor proposed that the focus should be on the real-time format. In his opinion, the plot does not have to involve the same CTU, because the idea of twenty-four hours allotted to the character in danger can be interpreted in any way. That said, Kiefer Sutherland would love to be a part of any project in the franchise, whether it be starring as Bauer or producing a new show about a 24-hour story.

And it looks like the fans themselves are ready to support the initiative, whether it's a new series about lifeguards, firefighters, or lawyers. But if the creators plan to return to the original storyline, people will not forgive them if Jack Bauer is not there, for Kiefer Sutherland is 24. So let's hope that Jack's story will finally be finished!
