Kevin Smith Unveils Jay and Silent Bob 3 Title as Filming Gears Up
Jay and Silent Bob 3 finally has an official title and a filming start date. Kevin Smith is reviving his stoner-comedy franchise more than six years after the 93% Popcornmeter sequel, teasing what chaos the cult duo will spark next.
Kevin Smith finally slapped a title on the next Jay and Silent Bob movie and explained why it is not rolling cameras yet. Short version: the movie exists, the money vanished, and he is not sugarcoating any of it.
The title and the (new) timeline
The third Jay and Silent Bob outing is officially called 'Jay and Silent Bob: Store Wars' — a very on-brand pun that basically screams retail chaos in the View Askewniverse. It was supposed to shoot in Canada earlier this year, but that plan fell apart. Now the movie is slated to film in a different location sometime in 2026.
Why the delay
Talking to THR, Smith said the project's Canadian financing evaporated, and he pointed to a U.S.-Canada trade flare-up as a big factor. Not exactly the reason you expect to hear for a stoner comedy delay, but here we are. He also took the blame squarely on himself, in a way only Kevin Smith would:
'We had Canadian money, and the Canadian money went away. It was just as people were getting aggressive with our friends up north... I was more down on myself for the movie falling apart... If you had been better at your job, then you could fucking pay for your own art, and you wouldn’t have to go hat in hand to somebody else.'
Where this sits in the View Askewniverse
Jay and Silent Bob (Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith) are the connective tissue of Smith's View Askewniverse and the only characters who pop up in all of his movies in that world — think 'Clerks,' 'Mallrats,' 'Chasing Amy,' and 'Dogma' among others. 'Store Wars' will land more than six years after the last Jay and Silent Bob movie; 'Jay and Silent Bob Reboot' pulled a 93% Popcornmeter audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, so the fan appetite is clearly still there.
What we know vs. what we do not
- Title: 'Jay and Silent Bob: Store Wars'
- Original plan: Film in Canada earlier this year
- New plan: Film in a different location in 2026
- Reason for delay: Canadian financing fell through amid a U.S.-Canada trade fight; Smith says that was a major factor
- State of the project: Plot and cast are still under wraps
- Context: Follows 'Jay and Silent Bob Reboot' (audience score 93% on Rotten Tomatoes' Popcornmeter)
That is the picture for now: a title, a new target year, and a very candid director explaining why the train got stuck in the station. The name 'Store Wars' does a lot of winking on its own, but until Smith starts rolling cameras in 2026, the specifics — who is in it, where it shoots, and what the plot actually is — stay locked up.
