Kelly Clarkson's Career Was Almost Nipped in the Bud by a Dangerous Accident
It's hard to believe that the beloved musician might have never achieved success.
Summary
- Kelly Clarkson is one of the most popular musicians of our time.
- Her road to stardom has been a bumpy one.
- Early in her career, the singer experienced a life-threatening event.
One of the ultimate fan-favorite coaches on The Voice, whose team members won the singing competition four times (seasons 14-15, 17 and 21), and a prominent musician herself, Kelly Clarkson is a universally loved artist. She's also a celebrated TV host whose eponymous talk show is currently in its fifth season – now set in New York City, where the singer moved after her divorce from Brandon Blackstock.
Needless to say, Kelly Clarkson has had a fruitful career. She made her artistic debut as a contestant on the first season of American Idol, went on to win the show, and signed her first-ever record deal. Since then, Clarkson has released ten studio albums, including two Christmas albums – Wrapped in Red (2013) and When Christmas Comes Around... (2021).
In these circumstances, it is no surprise that the singer has received widespread acclaim, winning three Grammys, with the fourth on the horizon for her latest album, Chemistry. However, it turns out that Kelly Clarkson's career was almost ruined at the beginning due to a serious accident.
Kelly Clarkson's Path to Success
Before competing on American Idol, Kelly Clarkson didn't have much success in Hollywood. She appeared as an extra in an episode of Sabrina, The Teenage Witch and worked with Gerry Goffin to record her first demo. In fact, the aspiring singer had so much passion that she did a very reckless thing.
'I actually moved out to LA with some random person I did not know. She just needed a roommate, and I was like, "I'll do it!" And I moved from Texas to LA with a stranger,' Kelly Clarkson shared in a recent episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show.
Interestingly, the singer doesn't think she did anything out of the ordinary. On the contrary, she thinks it was pretty common at the time.
'I feel like everyone in this industry has some crazy thing where you've either lived in your car or on a mattress in someone's house. You really got to want your dream. The universe makes you really want it,' Clarson added.
The Dangerous Accident
The future The Voice coach and Grammy winner didn't live with that person for long, however, as life got in the way.
'We moved into a place and it burned down. Then I slept in my car for a few days, and then tried for a show called American Idol. So, it all worked out,' Kelly Clarkson said of the dangerous event that accompanied her first foray into Hollywood.
Luckily, the singer wasn't injured. And now she can legitimately say that she forged her career in fire.
