Fans who have given up hope of seeing Amanda again are ecstatic about the news.

Fans were excited to learn that Kelli Giddish is set to return for the end of Law & Order: SVU season 24 to reveal the major news that Amanda Rollins is expecting a baby!

While NBC are yet to confirm this plot twist, TVLine say they have it on good authority that Giddish has not, as previously thought, made her final appearance on the show.

After rumours and gossip surrounding the end of Giddish's time on the show, she confirmed in August last year that she would be leaving the long-running police procedural, describing playing the role of Amanda Rollins as 'one of the greatest joys and privileges of my life'.

First appearing as an overkeen and slightly green detective, Rollins grew as a character and became a real fan favourite. Despite her position in the police force, her own family background was somewhat fraught. Her mother had been abused by her alcoholic father throughout Amanda's childhood and she found it hard to come to terms with the fact her mother had never stood up to him.

Even as an adult, her relationship with her mother was somewhat strained.

Likewise, Amanda's cocaine-addicted sister Kim, who also suffered from bipolar disorder, often caused her problems – not least when Kim staged a rape to get her sister to kill an abusive boyfriend.

And in season 16 we learnt that during her time in Atlanta, Amanda had agreed to have sex with a senior officer in order to get charges against Kim dropped – a scenario that ultimately led to Amanda being raped by the officer.

Despite all the turmoil in her life, though, Rollins 'exited' the show after marrying Assistant District Attorney Dominic 'Sonny' Carisi. And it looks like the couple are about to announce that they're having a baby.

And most fans are living for it!

'Absolutely love Rollins!' Wrote one, while another said 'Thrilled that Rollins is coming back!'

But this one-off appearance isn't enough for some, with one viewer posting 'Happy to hear this! In fact I haven't watched since the last Kelli Kiddish episode! Bring her back!' A view that seems to have popular support.

'Just bring her back! Her replacement is horrible. Zero chemistry with the others' was one of the more scathing comments. Others agreed. 'Maybe NBC realises how unhappy fans were that she left,' said another.

But among all the excitement, there was a lone voice crying out in the wilderness. 'Guess I'll be the voice of dissent – couldn't stand the character, glad she's gone. Now it'll ruin 2 of my shows!'

Well, I guess you can't please everyone.
