Keanu Reeves Keeps The Faith As Constantine 2 Scores Another Script Draft

Keanu Reeves drops a promising update on Constantine 2, signaling the long-awaited sequel is finally back on track after years in limbo.
Constantine 2 isn't dead. In fact, Keanu Reeves says it just took a small step forward, which is more than we've been able to say for a while.
"Fingers crossed. Another draft of the script came in," Reeves told Rotten Tomatoes. "We're waiting. We're gonna take it to the studio and hopefully they like it too."
Where things stand
- Announced in 2022, then mostly radio silence.
- Late 2024: first draft of the script was done.
- Now: a new draft just landed; Reeves and company plan to bring it to the studio.
- Status translation: progress, but no greenlight and no release date yet.
Who's involved (and what we're returning to)
Francis Lawrence, who directed the 2005 original, is set to come back for the sequel. This is the same DC Comics corner anchored by Reeves' John Constantine, the world-weary exorcist who, last time around, teamed up with a detective to dig into her sister's suspicious death. That movie also featured Tilda Swinton, Rachel Weisz, and Djimon Hounsou.
The creative tug-of-war
If you're wondering why this has taken forever, Peter Stormare — who played Lucifer in the first film — offered some candid color earlier this year. He said there's been a lot of back-and-forth and suggested Reeves hasn't been thrilled with the scripts so far. Stormare's pitch for the sequel vibe is basically: keep it moody and occult, not superhero-loud. In his words, the original took time to become a cult favorite, it worked, and it can work again without stuffing it full of shootouts, wirework, or Marvel-sized spectacle. In short: less big guns, more smoke and brimstone.
So, yes, the ball is moving — slowly. If the studio likes this draft, we might finally see Constantine 2 shift from limbo into something real. Until then, I'm keeping expectations measured and hoping they let it stay weird.
